You can make AI music for free by choosing a free generator, describing the sound you want, and refining a few versions. For a vocal song, try Suno, Song.do or DeepAI Music; for an instrumental, try Ksumiyo or Boppy. Free access and limits vary, and a tool’s general song-generation features do not guarantee support for every genre, instrument or prompt detail.

Make A First Track
- Decide what the track needs to do. Write down whether you want vocals or an instrumental, the mood, approximate energy, and where you will use it. A short backing cue, for example, needs a clear mood and a defined duration; a vocal song also needs a subject and lyrics or a lyric direction.
- Pick a tool that matches that brief. Choose Ksumiyo for a controlled instrumental starting point, or one of the vocal-song tools if you want lyrics and singing. Boppy lists duration and music controls; Suno lists editing options as well as song generation. Check the vendor’s current interface for the controls available on its free plan.
- Write a concrete prompt. Use a compact brief: “Instrumental for [occasion], [mood], [energy], led by [instrument], with [supporting sound], [tempo or pace], and [duration]. Keep the arrangement [simple/building/steady] and leave space for [voice/dialogue].” For a vocal song, add: “Theme: [subject]. Structure: verse, chorus, verse, chorus. Use [tone] vocals and keep the chorus easy to remember.” These are prompt-writing examples, not claims that every service supports each control or musical style.
- Generate once, then change one thing. If the result feels too busy, ask for fewer layers; if it lacks momentum, ask for a stronger rhythmic pulse or a gradual build. Keep the rest of the brief fixed so you can tell what changed. If the service does not expose that control, revise the text prompt or choose a tool with a listed matching control.
- Listen for practical problems. Check whether the opening starts promptly, the mood stays consistent, vocals are intelligible if present, and the ending works for the intended use. Regenerate or revise only the part that misses the brief. Do not assume a prompt detail was followed just because it appeared in the prompt.
- Save and check the usage terms. Download or retain the track using the options the service provides, then check its terms before publishing or using it commercially. Export formats and download rights differ; for example, Suno’s Free Plan excludes commercial rights, while Boppy lists MP3 downloads but does not establish a licensing term here.
Make The Prompt More Useful
Music prompts work better as a short production brief than as a pile of adjectives. Name the role of the track, its energy, the lead sound, and how the arrangement should change. Add tempo, key, duration or structure only when the chosen tool offers the relevant control or responds to it; support for a particular genre, instrument or detailed instruction is not established for every service here.
- Instrumental cue: “Instrumental background for a calm reading session; gentle, even pulse; soft lead melody; sparse supporting parts; no vocals; steady ending.”
- Vocal song: “A hopeful song about starting over; intimate verses and a bigger, memorable chorus; clear lead vocal; warm, steady accompaniment.”
- Short clip: “A bright, energetic instrumental sting; immediate opening, one clear melodic idea, clean finish.” Use a duration control only if the tool offers one, and check what the free plan lets you generate or download.
Before You Share Or Publish
Free generation does not automatically mean free commercial use. Suno states that its Free Plan does not include commercial rights. For the other tools, the available details here do not establish the full rights attached to every free track, so check the service’s current terms before publishing, monetizing, or using generated music in a project. If you use someone’s voice, lyrics, recording or other material as a reference or input, get their consent and follow the platform’s terms. Do not assume that a generated imitation or cover is cleared for use.
