Editorial Policy

This is the editorial policy for Specifiction, a Yorker Media publication.

Sources and accuracy

Factual claims should be grounded in reliable sources, with original announcements and official documentation preferred for product details. Reporting should distinguish confirmed information from estimates, rumours, opinion and promotional material. Dates, regions and software versions matter.

Reviews and recommendations

Hands-on experience should be identified and described. A researched overview or specification comparison must not imply testing that did not occur. Recommendations should explain the intended use and relevant limitations.

Archive and updates

Original author credits and publication dates are retained. A change of owner or design does not make an archived article newly researched. Updates should reflect actual changes to the material.

Corrections

Send specific corrections, supporting evidence and the article URL to [email protected]. Material factual corrections should be made clearly. Routine spelling or formatting repairs may be made without a separate notice.

Commercial relationships

Advertising and commercial partnerships do not justify fabricated results or false claims of independent testing. Relevant relationships should be identified. See our Advertising disclosure.

Production tools

Research, editing and production may use software or AI assistance. Tools are not evidence: sources should not be invented, and generated material must not be presented as first-hand experience that did not occur. Responsibility for published content remains with the publication.
