Overview

Founded in 1991 and headquartered in Staines-upon-Thames, Alphatax says it serves more than 1,300 customers. The suite spans several distinct tax workflows, so its value is greatest for organisations that need more than a single return-preparation tool. Corporate Tax covers the UK, Ireland and UAE; teams working elsewhere should check that their required compliance workflows are supported.

Key features

Corporate tax and filing

Corporate Tax prepares and e-files iXBRL-compliant returns for the UK, Ireland and UAE. Cloud, on-premise and hosted deployment give organisations a meaningful choice about where the software runs. APIs connect to third-party systems and data, and Alphamap supports data mapping. Consolidated returns, accounting integrations, tax provision support and approval workflows help coordinate corporate reporting rather than leave each task isolated.

VAT and provisioning

Alphatax VAT combines HMRC-recommended and custom data checks with partial exemption support, group VAT consolidation, trend comparisons and reporting. This is more relevant to businesses managing VAT across a group than to a single entity with a straightforward filing need. Provisioning is designed for in-house tax and finance teams dealing with multiple entities, contributors, currencies or jurisdictions, where coordinating inputs is a central requirement.

Pillar Two and research

Alphatax Pillar Two is a SaaS product for multinational organisations. It supports GIR and QDMTT compliance and filing workflows across jurisdictions, with direct filing where available and practical alternatives where it is not. Loctax AI Assistant adds source-backed tax research across 220+ jurisdictions, document analysis and memo drafting, and can use an organisation’s data and structure. Together these capabilities address international reporting and research needs, but are unlikely to matter to a buyer seeking only domestic corporate return preparation.

Security, support and training

Tax Systems says it has held ISO 27001 certification since July 2020, encrypts information at rest and in transit, and hosts its UK cloud service on Microsoft Azure UK West and UK South. Support is available Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:30; the company says 90% of queries are resolved within 24 hours. Instructor-led courses developed by tax professionals provide a structured training option for teams adopting the software.

Pricing

Alphatax uses paid, custom pricing, with costs available on request. That model is suited to organisations evaluating a multi-workflow tax platform, but buyers should obtain a scoped quote to compare the relevant products and deployment arrangement. Alphatax Provisioning has an enquiry-form offer of a free 14-day trial. The trial applies to Provisioning; it should not be taken as a trial of the full suite.

Platforms

The platform supports API, web and Windows. Corporate Tax can be deployed in the cloud, on-premise or hosted, giving IT and tax teams alternatives to a single deployment model. The combination of APIs and Alphamap integration is useful where tax data needs to connect with existing systems, though buyers should confirm the implementation fits their environment.

Who it's for

Alphatax is best suited to corporate tax, finance and in-house tax teams handling compliance across entities, contributors or jurisdictions. It is particularly relevant to multinational organisations with Pillar Two obligations, and to groups that need VAT consolidation or cross-entity provisioning. It is a poor fit for individuals seeking personal tax software, and may be excessive for a business that needs only a basic domestic filing tool.

Pros and cons

Pros

Broad tax coverage: corporate tax, VAT, provisioning and Pillar Two workflows can address several organisational needs within one suite.
Corporate Tax deployment choice: cloud, on-premise and hosted options let organisations align the product with their operating requirements.
Group-focused capabilities: VAT consolidation, consolidated returns and multi-entity provisioning serve teams coordinating work across a business.
International research and filing: Pillar Two workflows and research across 220+ jurisdictions address needs beyond domestic return preparation.

Cons

Custom pricing: buyers cannot readily compare a published price and need an enquiry for a quote.
Provisioning-only trial: the free 14-day offer does not establish trial access to the other products.
Defined corporate tax jurisdiction scope: Corporate Tax supports the UK, Ireland and UAE, which may not cover every buyer's filing footprint.

Alternatives

For a different corporate tax or compliance option, compare Corporate Tax Software and Tax Compliance Software; teams focused on cross-border pricing policy can also browse Transfer Pricing Software.

Choose TaxCalc if its paid plans and Linux, macOS or Windows platform coverage better suit your requirements. Tax Series is another paid option, with API and web platforms and licensing based on scope determined during proof of concept. Consider DT Max T2 for a Windows or web alternative with a limited 10 plan. Complete Tax Solutions is a paid web and Windows option with pricing by enquiry. CSC Corptax is another enterprise corporate tax product, with pricing by demo request. ONESOURCE Certificate Manager offers web, Windows, API and self-hosted platforms. ProFile T2 is a Windows alternative with a T2/CO-17 Corporate plan priced at 1190.00 USD per year and one license. TaxCycle T2 is a Windows option with a one-user plan priced at 1102.00 CAD per once.

Verdict

Choose Alphatax if your organisation needs coordinated corporate tax, VAT, provisioning or Pillar Two work across entities and values deployment flexibility for Corporate Tax. Its chief advantage is the breadth of business tax workflows; its main drawback is custom pricing, alongside Corporate Tax's stated UK, Ireland and UAE scope. If your needs are narrower, or those jurisdictions do not match your filing footprint, compare a more focused alternative before requesting a quote.
