Overview

APEX brings strength training, meal tracking, and physique check-ins into a single coaching app. It can use logged gym performance to suggest progression, warm-up weights, deloads, and routine improvements, while its nutrition tools estimate meals and recommend options aligned with targets. That breadth makes it a practical fit for people coordinating food and lifting, but the advice is only as useful as the records they keep.

Progress checks compare photos and other check-in results over time and analyze body and muscle development. A library of 300+ exercises and 1,200+ ingredients gives users a substantial base for planning and logging.

Key features

Training and nutrition guidance

Workout coaching draws on logged gym performance to propose next steps rather than simply preserving a training history. The free plan allows unlimited custom routines and full training history, but limits smart workout plans to five. Premium adds automatic progression and routine improvements, along with unlimited workout and nutrition plans and assistant chats. Meal logging accepts photos, text, narration, files, or recipes; Free includes 10 smart meal logs, while Premium removes that cap.

Progress analysis and data control

Body analysis and check-ins are Premium features, so users who want APEX to interpret physique changes need a paid plan. The maker says personal data, including body photos, is not used to train or fine-tune AI models; its named AI providers are Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, and OpenAI. The privacy policy describes TLS 1.2+ in transit, encryption at rest, and application-layer AES-256-GCM encryption for body photo files. Users can export account data, and deleting an account permanently removes it and associated personal data.

Manual tracking is the trade-off

APEX does not integrate with Apple HealthKit, Google Fit, or other device health platforms, so workouts, meals, and check-ins require manual entry. That is a meaningful drawback for anyone who relies on health-data syncing. Support is available by email at contact@apexfitness.app, with a usual response time of 1–2 business days.

Pricing

The Free plan is free, billed $0 forever. It includes uncapped workout and meal logging, unlimited custom routines, 300+ exercises, 1,200 ingredients, analytics, full training history, and a muscle recovery map. Its limits are 10 smart meal logs and five smart workout plans, leaving a useful foundation for logging but restricting repeated use of the smarter planning tools.

Premium Monthly costs 9.99 USD per month, billed $9.99/ month. Premium Yearly costs 70.00 USD per year, billed $70/ year. Both add automatic progression and routine improvements, unlimited assistant chats, smart meal logs, workout and nutrition plans, plus body analysis and check-ins. The yearly term costs less than twelve monthly payments at the stated rates, but commits the subscriber to annual billing.

A 30-day free month auto-renews into a paid subscription unless canceled before it ends. Subscriptions are managed through App Store settings, so trial users should keep the cancellation deadline in mind.

Platforms

APEX runs on iOS and Android. The maker says it can tailor routines to available equipment, including home dumbbells or bodyweight, and presents it as suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. Its manual-data approach may still be a poor fit for users who expect connected tracking.

Who it's for

Choose APEX if you want one app to connect lifting suggestions, nutrition estimates, and progress checks, and you are prepared to log the inputs yourself. Beginners can use equipment-tailored routines, while experienced lifters may value progression and deload suggestions based on recorded performance. It is less suitable for anyone whose routine depends on automatic health-platform syncing or who needs body analysis without a subscription.

Pros and cons

Broad free logging: uncapped workout and meal logging, unlimited custom routines, and full training history make Free useful beyond a short trial.
Coaching spans training and food: Premium combines performance-based progression with meal estimates and target-aligned suggestions.
Several meal-entry methods: photo, text, narration, files, and recipes give users alternatives to typing every meal.
No health-platform integrations: manual entry adds ongoing effort and rules out automatic syncing from Apple HealthKit or Google Fit.
Smart features are capped on Free: 10 smart meal logs and five smart workout plans may be restrictive for regular coaching use.
Trial renews automatically: the free month becomes paid unless canceled before it ends.

Alternatives

For a broader set of options, browse AI Fitness Apps. Pick Freeletics instead if web access matters alongside iOS and Android, or if its free workouts, exercises, runs, and audio sessions suit better than APEX's logging-led coaching; its free content selection is limited.

ARDOR is an iOS-only alternative with one free workout per week and full access for the first seven days; consider it if that weekly free allowance fits your needs. Miles is another iOS option, centered on run tracking, goal setting, and plan previews in its free tier, so it may suit runners more than lifters seeking meal guidance.

Styrki offers unlimited manual workout logging, personal-best tracking, GPS runs, cardio and heart-rate tracking, plus a community feed and leaderboards; choose it if those tracking and community features matter more than APEX's nutrition coaching. Kemtai is an alternative across Android, iOS, web, and Windows.

Saga Coach has three workouts always free and a chat trial, with a paid monthly plan for unlimited workouts, full chat access, and schedule changes; consider it if those terms suit your coaching needs. AI-Training is another paid option with a free plan and trial on Android and iOS. HumanGO has no free plan, but its paid Essential plan combines one personalized single-sport goal at a time, adaptive training, a Hugo AI coach, and wearable and app connections; favor it if those connections are a priority.

Verdict

APEX is a strong fit for self-directed lifters who want workout progression, nutrition support, and physique check-ins in one mobile app, with a free tier that supports sustained logging. Its main reasons to look elsewhere are the manual data entry and the subscription boundary around unlimited smart coaching and body analysis. Start with Free if its smart-feature caps are enough; choose Premium if you will use the automated guidance regularly and accept the renewal terms.
