Overview

Poe brings chats with AI bots from different providers together with tools for making bots of your own. It is best suited to people who want that variety in one service, including creators who want to build prompt, script or API bots. Its breadth is useful, but subscription points and rollover terms deserve a close look before paying.

Key features

Chats can be private or held in a group, and Poe supports web search, file uploads and image generation. That range suits people who move between conversation, research and media creation; it is less compelling for someone seeking only a single-purpose chatbot.

Bot creation ranges from prompt bots, which accept custom instructions and an optional knowledge base, to script bots that combine models with custom Python logic. Poe hosts the infrastructure for script bots. API bots connect to endpoints compatible with Chat Completions or Responses APIs, and support function calling through the Chat Completions API. This gives builders several ways to shape bots, though API bots depend on compatible endpoints.

Subscribers get access to additional bots, more messages and media generation, and bot context lengths up to 2 million tokens. The Free plan has a 200k-token context length, so heavier or longer-context use is a reason to consider a subscription. Poe also offers app integrations and a team workspace, making it relevant to collaborative use as well as individual chats.

Pricing

Poe is freemium. Free is free, billed monthly, and includes a 200k-token context length. It is the sensible starting point for occasional use, though subscribers receive additional bots, more messages and media generation, and longer context.

Paid plans are organized around compute-point allowances: 10 thousand points/day, 660 thousand points/month, 1.65 million points/month, 3.3 million points/month, and 8.25 million points/month. Each plan's point allowance depends on the selected plan; unused points do not roll over unless specified. Subscribers may receive points daily and/or monthly. The allocation model makes capacity a central part of the purchase, so readers should compare the allowance and rollover terms that apply to their chosen plan. Web subscribers are redirected to Stripe to complete payment.

The point-based tiers are a better fit for people who expect to use more bots, messages or media generation than Free supports. Since allowance sizes vary and unused points may expire, a larger tier is not automatically the right choice for everyone. Support is available through Poe's Help Center, with a feedback link from the site.

Platforms

Poe runs on web, Android, iOS, macOS and Windows, and offers an API. Mobile apps make it usable away from a desktop, while the API is relevant to bot builders connecting compatible services.

Who it's for

Poe suits users who want bots based on models from different providers in one place, especially if they also want search, uploads or image generation in their chat workflow. It also fits creators who want to build bots without hosting script-bot infrastructure themselves. Those who need a single provider's own product, or who want predictable usage without tracking point allowances and rollover, may prefer another option.

Pros and cons

Pro: Multiple providers' bots, private and group chats, search, uploads and image generation bring varied AI work into one service.
Pro: Prompt, script and API bot options serve creators with different levels of customization, and Poe hosts script-bot infrastructure.
Pro: Web, mobile, desktop and API access cover a wide range of workflows.
Con: Subscription capacity is measured in points, with daily or monthly allocations and rollover only where specified; users must choose a tier with those terms in mind.
Con: The Free plan's 200k-token context length is shorter than the up-to-2-million-token contexts available to subscribers.

Alternatives

For a broader directory of agent products, see AI Agent Marketplaces; for chat-focused options, browse AI chatbots and assistants.

GPT Store is another freemium choice, with signed-in free users getting limited messages with uploads, image creation and voice chats across Android, iOS and web. Choose it if that set of limited free features fits better than Poe's multi-provider bot range.

AgenMart offers a free plan and trial, with a Basic plan that includes 10,000 words of AI text usage per month, basic content optimization, API access and templates limited to 25. It is a better fit when those content-optimization and template features are the priority.

AGENTIS is another freemium option for readers comparing AI agent products.

Relevance AI offers a free web plan with 100 credits per day and 200 actions per month, plus limits including one user, one project and one workforce. Consider it when a credit- and action-bounded workforce setup better matches the job.

DeepNLP AI Agent Marketplace has a free plan for exploring live agents across 30+ categories, with one agent deployment hosting, a live subdomain and agent monetization. Its 9.90 USD per month Pro Monthly plan is an option for readers seeking that marketplace and hosting approach.

AiCrate is a paid option with a free plan and trial; its Basic plan costs 9.99 USD per month for 500 credits/month, while Premium costs 19.99 USD per month for 2,000 credits/month. Choose it if a defined monthly credit allocation is more appealing than Poe's point-based subscription allowances.

Microsoft 365 Copilot Agent Store is a paid alternative with plans including Microsoft 365 Copilot Business at 21.00 USD per month, billed yearly, and up to 300 users. It may suit readers evaluating a paid agent store with that seat capacity.

Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is another paid alternative.

Verdict

Choose Poe if you want multi-provider AI chat alongside practical tools for building prompt, script and API bots; the combination is its strongest reason to choose it. Look elsewhere if point allowances and rollover conditions are a poor fit for how you use AI, or if you want a more narrowly defined alternative.
