Overview

LOGINventory is an on-premises inventory tool for teams that need visibility across a mixed IT estate. It suits organizations that want to keep inventory data in their own SQL database, with either basic inventory or added software asset management. Its strongest appeal is broad discovery without routine agents; the server’s Windows and SQL Server requirements are a meaningful constraint.

Key features

LOGINventory discovers devices over WMI/RPC, SNMP, or SSH without installing agents on networked systems. That can simplify collection across Windows, Linux/Unix, macOS, and SNMP equipment, provided the required protocols and access are in place. An Offline Agent extends collection to Windows, Linux, and macOS devices outside the LAN, a useful option for equipment that cannot be reached by core network discovery.

Coverage also reaches multiple hypervisors, Microsoft cloud services, AWS virtual machines, and Exchange. For Windows devices, the maker says the default inventory can capture up to 1,117 individual values, giving administrators a detailed basis for documenting configurations. The Inventory Edition handles discovery and documentation; the SAM Edition adds license management, target-versus-actual comparisons, software usage measurement, and compliance reports. That makes SAM the more relevant choice for teams that need to track software entitlements and usage, rather than simply record assets.

Integration options include a REST API with JSON, PowerShell, CSV, custom scan scripts, and direct connections for MDM and ITSM/CMDB products. Named integrations include Microsoft Intune, baramundi, APPTEC360, Sophos Mobile, Kyberna ky2help, iET ITSM, helpLine, and i-net HelpDesk. This range gives IT teams several ways to feed inventory into existing processes.

The product runs on the customer’s infrastructure and stores inventory in a local SQL database; the maker says inventory data is not transmitted to it. The optional LIA AI assistant processes requests through Azure OpenAI, automatically anonymizes them, and can be disabled. The maker states that neither LOGINventory nor Schmidt’s LOGIN GmbH is ISO 27001 certified, although the product includes a manually completed control template. Organizations for which that certification is a requirement should treat the distinction plainly.

Pricing

The Forever-Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and is capped at 20 devices. It is a practical starting point for a small inventory, but the device ceiling makes it unsuitable once a network grows beyond that size.

Inventory360 costs 6.50 EUR per year and SAM360 costs 8.60 EUR per year, each billed annually for 0–249 assets; prices exclude VAT. The lower-cost option is for inventory, while SAM360 adds the software asset management capabilities. For larger deployments, the Inventory Edition is priced annually per asset: €6.50 for 0–249, €5.90 for 250–499, €5.20 for 500–999, €4.50 for 1,000–2,499, and €3.70 for 2,500–4,999 assets. The SAM Edition costs €8.60, €7.40, €6.80, €6.00, and €4.70 per asset annually across those same tiers. Both editions require custom pricing at 5,000+ assets. All prices exclude VAT.

A 30-day trial provides the full feature set at the customer’s full network size, requires no credit card, and includes personal support. Maintenance includes updates and major releases, business-day technical support by email and phone, one hour of remote consulting per year, and helpdesk access.

Platforms

The LOGINventory server requires Windows 10/11 or Windows Server 2016–2025 (x64) and SQL Server 2012 SP4 or later; the installer can include SQL Server Express. This is a clear fit for organizations able to host on Windows and SQL Server, but a drawback for teams seeking a server that runs natively on Linux or macOS. The inventory itself covers Windows, Linux/Unix, macOS, network devices, cloud services, and virtual environments.

Who it's for

LOGINventory is aimed at IT managers who need to document assets and configurations across a broad network, from a small business to an enterprise. Its combination of local data storage, agentless discovery, and optional software asset management is especially relevant to teams consolidating inventory without moving inventory records to a vendor-hosted service. It is less suitable where ISO 27001 certification is mandatory or the server must run on a non-Windows platform.

Pros and cons

Pros: Agentless discovery across several protocols reduces dependence on endpoint agents for devices reachable on the network.
Pros: The Offline Agent, cloud and hypervisor coverage, and broad integrations extend the inventory beyond conventional LAN endpoints.
Pros: Local SQL storage and the ability to disable the anonymizing LIA assistant give organizations control over where inventory data is kept and whether AI assistance is used.
Cons: The server depends on Windows and SQL Server, which rules it out for teams that require a Linux-hosted server.
Cons: The free plan stops at 20 devices, and 5,000+ asset pricing is on request, so small-estate economics do not carry over to the largest deployments.
Cons: Neither the product nor its maker is ISO 27001 certified, which may disqualify it under some procurement requirements.

Alternatives

Consider OCS Inventory NG if a free inventory product with support for mobile platforms is a better match. CloudQuery may fit teams focused on cloud asset inventory in their own database, with a free tier capped at 1M rows. Open-AudIT is another option, with a free plan for unlimited devices and a Professional plan at 399.00 USD per year. Choose runZero if its Community Edition’s 100-asset limit, one-organization allowance, 10 recurring tasks, and 30 days of data retention better fit the scope.

GLPI is an alternative with a public-cloud plan priced at 19.00 EUR per month per IT agent. rxInventory is another freemium option. BelManage may suit buyers seeking a paid self-hosted asset and configuration management product. IT Asset Tool offers a free Basic plan for up to 35 assets, a lower cap than LOGINventory’s 20-device free plan only if comparing different asset and device measures; check which limit matches your estate.

Verdict

Choose LOGINventory if you need detailed, broad-based discovery while keeping inventory records on your own infrastructure, and can meet its Windows and SQL Server server requirements. The choice between inventory and SAM editions makes it useful both for documenting an estate and for managing software compliance. Look elsewhere if ISO 27001 certification is essential, a Linux server is required, or the 20-device free tier and per-asset paid model do not fit your scale.
