Overview

CollegeSource Transferology is a transfer-credit exploration service for students and a planning portal for college staff. It suits students weighing where prior learning may count and institutions that need tools for transfer advising. Its focus is useful but bounded: it does not handle applications or transcript delivery.

Key features

Credit exploration and planning

Students can check how college coursework, AP, CLEP, International Baccalaureate, military courses and military occupations may transfer. A free account opens personalized transfer options, and what-if scenarios let students consider possibilities before choosing a school or course plan. These are planning aids, not a guarantee that every credit will apply or a replacement for the enrollment process.

Find a Replacement Course helps enrolled students look for a course elsewhere that may transfer back to their current institution. Transfer Pathways frame options around school partnerships and educational goals, giving students a way to explore defined routes rather than only individual course equivalencies.

Tools for institutions

Transferology Lab is built for college employees such as advisors, administrators and equivalency managers. Staff can assemble Course Bundles for common transfer scenarios, create branded institutional landing pages, and use reporting to identify coursework without established equivalencies. That combination supports advising and equivalency work, but institutions seeking broader student lifecycle functions will need other systems.

TES integration sends reviews of unarticulated courses, exams and military credits to TES Evaluation Tracker, and imports TES transfer guides and articulation agreements for display. The Student Lead API retrieves student information requests and exports them as CSV or JSON for other systems, including Slate. CollegeSource describes role-based restrictions, access logging, firewalls and encryption as personal-data safeguards, and says it stores and processes data exclusively in the United States.

Pricing

The Student account plan is free and includes transfer exploration. It is the straightforward fit for students who want to investigate transfer options without paying for an institutional product. The Institution subscription has custom pricing tailored to college or university enrollment; institutions must contact sales. Transferology is freemium, so the free student access does not imply that staff-facing institutional tools are also free.

Platforms

Transferology runs on the web and offers API access. Its responsive web app adapts to desktop, tablet and mobile screens, which lets students explore without a separate mobile app. The API is relevant to institutions connecting student lead requests with other systems.

Who it's for

Transferology is a strong fit for prospective or enrolled students who want to compare transfer possibilities, including nontraditional credit, and for institutions that need transfer-specific advising and recruitment tools. It is not the right choice for students expecting to submit applications or transcripts through one service, nor for institutions looking for a complete degree-audit or enrollment platform.

Pros and cons

Pros: Free personalized student exploration covers academic, exam and military credit, so students can investigate a broad range of prior learning without a subscription.
Pros: Replacement-course search and Transfer Pathways address practical planning decisions, while Lab tools support institutional advising and equivalency workflows.
Pros: TES exchange and CSV or JSON lead exports provide routes for institutions to connect transfer information with existing processes.
Cons: It cannot accept applications or deliver transcripts, leaving those enrollment steps to other services.
Cons: Institutional access uses custom pricing, so colleges must engage sales rather than select a published tier.
Cons: Transfer exploration is not a promise that every course or credit has an established equivalency.

Alternatives

For a broader degree-audit category, browse Degree Audit Software. Choose Ellucian Degree Works instead when a paid degree-audit product is the priority; its pricing is commercially confidential, with a 2024 Ellucian document tying it to full-time equivalent students.

FlightPath is a free, self-hosted web alternative for institutions comfortable installing and maintaining a server with MySQL and PHP 7.4 or PHP 8.x.

Risely Agentic Degree Audit is a paid web option. Stellic is a paid web and API option. Ellucian Advising is a paid web option with pricing not stated; Ellucian offers demo or contact routes. DegreeSight uses custom pricing with no published tiers, while HighPoint Degree Planner is a paid web alternative.

Verdict

Choose Transferology if you are a student comparing how prior learning may transfer or an institution building transfer-specific advising workflows. Its strongest case is the combination of free student exploration and staff tools for pathways, equivalencies and institutional leads. Look elsewhere if you need applications, transcript delivery or a broader degree-audit platform.
