Overview

Coverfairy brings cover layout, manuscript formatting, print-wrap calculations, and promotional mockups into one service. The combination is more useful to authors managing several parts of a release than to someone who only wants to generate a cover image. Key cover wording remains editable as typography, so revisions to a title or back-cover copy need not mean rebuilding the artwork.

Key features

Cover design and artwork

Users can generate artwork, choose suggested art, or upload images they own or have licensed. Editable title, subtitle, author, spine, and back-cover text provides practical flexibility as a book changes. Cover layout and bleed settings are supported. AI use is credit-metered: each delivered image, variation, or edit costs one credit, while failed generations do not. That makes experimentation more predictable than charging for unsuccessful attempts, but frequent rounds of revisions can use credits quickly.

Interior formatting and print preparation

Word and EPUB manuscripts can be imported, with EPUB, print-ready PDF, and large-print PDF exports. Coverfairy calculates wrap and spine dimensions for KDP, IngramSpark, Lulu, and Barnes & Noble Press. A specific KDP safeguard strengthens its print case: if KDP rejects an unchanged export because Coverfairy miscalculated the technical dimensions, it will correct the file for free or refund the affected pass.

Exports and launch materials

Export options include ebook JPG or PNG, 300 DPI print PDF, a 2,400 × 2,400 ACX audiobook JPG, and launch images. Mockups cover books, e-readers, cafés, bookshops, and social launches. An active pass also enables a Canva-ready PPTX or flattened PDF for manual import into Canva; that workflow is less direct than an integrated handoff, but gives users a route to continue editing there.

Pricing

The free plan is free and includes four one-time AI image credits and watermarked cover drafts. It is a limited way to start, not a substitute for paid export access.

Week Pass costs 6.00 USD per once, billed 7 days, with no renewal. It provides unlimited non-AI cover, interior, and mockup exports plus 20 AI image credits. This is the sensible choice for a short, defined publishing sprint; the seven-day window is a poor fit for a project that may stretch out.

Monthly costs 12.00 USD per month, billed monthly, and includes the same unlimited non-AI export categories plus 40 AI image credits per billing period. It can suit authors working across a longer release cycle or multiple revisions, and can be cancelled anytime. Its credit allowance still makes intensive AI iteration a consideration. Both paid plans include the stated export categories, while AI generation remains capped.

Platforms

Coverfairy runs in a browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebook. This makes it practical across common desktop systems without a platform-specific app requirement. The privacy notice names Supabase for authentication, hosting, and storage, and Stripe for payments; Coverfairy says it does not store full card numbers. Support targets range from one UK business day for security reports and paid-export outages to five days for general questions, with billing, refund, privacy, IP, and print cases targeted within two days.

Who it's for

Coverfairy is a good fit for self-publishers who want cover and interior production, print-on-demand dimensions, and launch mockups under one roof. It is less suited to an author who needs an unmetered AI art workflow or only wants a dedicated cover generator without formatting and promotional tools.

Pros and cons

Pros: Editable cover typography makes copy revisions easier without baking wording into the artwork.
Pros: Manuscript imports, multiple interior formats, print-wrap calculations, and mockups address several release tasks in one service.
Pros: The Week Pass has no renewal, and failed AI generations do not consume credits.
Cons: The free plan has only four one-time AI credits and watermarked drafts, so it offers little room for a finished, export-ready project.
Cons: AI credits are limited even on paid plans, which can constrain repeated image revisions.
Cons: Canva transfer requires a manual download and import rather than a direct workflow.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison of cover-generation options, see AI Book Cover Generators; for tools centered on interior layout, see Book Layout Software.

Choose getvivix instead if you want an iOS or Android option as well as web access, and are comfortable with its free credits and watermarked outputs. Publbee Cover Studio is another freemium alternative to compare. CoverForge offers unlimited watermarked design previews on its free plan and a 14.00 USD per once single-cover plan, making it worth considering for a one-off cover. BookClad may suit authors who prefer monthly credits, though its free plan excludes KDP export. BookCover AI offers a free allowance of 10 credits and up to 10 covers. BookCoverDesign.ai is an alternative with a 9.99 USD per month Standard plan and monthly credits. Cover Studio AI is worth comparing if a free plan with trim and spine calculations and PDF and Kindle exports is the priority. Librava.ai is another freemium alternative.

Verdict

Choose Coverfairy if you are a self-publisher who needs both book-production files and launch assets, particularly when print-wrap calculations and editable cover text matter. Its strongest advantage is the range of work it brings together, backed by a specific remedy for qualifying KDP dimension errors. Look elsewhere if your main need is extensive AI image iteration: paid credits remain capped, and the free tier is narrow.
