Overview

DataLion is a survey, research-analysis and dashboard platform for teams that collect their own responses or bring together data from other sources. It is best suited to market research and consumer-insights teams that need more than charts: the platform connects questionnaire design with statistical analysis and dashboard sharing. Its breadth is a strength, but useful sharing and fuller analysis sit beyond the tightly capped free plan.

Publishing a survey can generate a dataset, codebook and live dashboard automatically, while scheduled imports and multi-source projects let teams combine survey responses with other data. The company is based in Munich and was founded in 2014. For broader category browsing, see our Market Research Software and Sales Analytics Software lists.

Key features

Surveys, imports and analysis

Questionnaire creation includes skip logic and distribution, giving teams a way to manage the path from survey design to analysis in one platform. The analysis toolkit covers crosstabs, significance testing, weighting, regression and ANOVA, as well as MaxDiff, price sensitivity, sentiment and topic analysis. That range makes DataLion a more natural fit for research questions than for teams that need only a basic reporting layer.

Imports from SPSS, Excel, CSV, databases and APIs, plus scheduled imports and the ability to combine sources in a project, help when survey results need context from other datasets. The trade-off is that the free tier does not include crosstabs or AI analysis, and exports and AI analysis begin with Solo.

Dashboards and outputs

Drag-and-drop dashboard tools, interactive filters, drill-downs and more than 50 chart types support flexible presentation of results. Users can export to editable PowerPoint, Google Slides, Excel, PDF, image and CSV, or connect through a Power BI OData feed. AI access through MCP is included in Solo and is also named for Enterprise. These options serve teams that need to distribute results in several formats, though the free plan has no exports.

Hosting, privacy and support

DataLion says its hosting is in Germany in ISO 27001-certified data centers; that certification applies to the data centers and hosting, not to DataLion itself. Its Art. 28 GDPR Data Processing Agreement is included, and access controls include roles, granular profiles, optional two-factor authentication and SSO. Enterprise offers dedicated hosting in Germany or self-hosting; the security page also describes on-premise Docker deployment and dedicated hosted instances.

All plans include German-language email support and a help center. Pro adds priority support; Enterprise adds an SLA, personal contact, onboarding, training and data consultancy. That makes the upper tiers more attractive to organizations that need a defined support relationship, while the lower tiers retain only the standard support channels.

Pricing

DataLion has a free plan, a 14-day trial and paid plans beginning at 100.00 EUR per month. Solo, Starter and Pro prices are billed annually and exclude VAT; Enterprise has a minimum fee and annual contract. The distinction between a free entry point and annual paid commitments matters: teams should match the seat and analysis allowances to their actual sharing needs before moving up.

Free — free, billed free forever: one user, one project and 100 cases, with surveys, AI builder, 75 templates, Excel/CSV/SPSS import and live dashboards. It excludes exports, crosstabs and AI analysis, making it a limited personal evaluation tier rather than a team reporting plan.
Solo — 100.00 EUR per month, billed per month, billed annually, excl. VAT: one administrator licence, unlimited projects, full analysis, exports, AI analysis, Theme Studio, REST API and Claude/MCP. It is the entry paid tier for a single operator who needs the full analysis and output toolset, but it does not include viewer seats for dashboard sharing.
Starter — 350.00 EUR per month, billed per month, billed annually, excl. VAT: one administrator and five viewers, everything in Solo, live dashboard sharing and the ability to add viewers anytime. It fits a small team that needs to distribute dashboards, at a substantial step up from Solo.
Pro — 525.00 EUR per month, billed per month, billed annually, excl. VAT: one admin, one editor and ten viewers, everything in Starter, white label, Conjoint (CBC), BI views and priority support. It suits teams needing a second working role, branded outputs or those research and support additions; it costs more than Starter while retaining a defined seat mix.
Enterprise — billed from €1,400 per month, minimum fee, annual contract by licence mix, excl. VAT: tailored licences, dedicated hosting in Germany or self-hosting, SSO, SLA and personal contact, onboarding, training and data consultancy. This is the fit for organizations requiring deployment and licence tailoring, but its minimum fee and annual contract make it a poor match for small or short-term projects.

Platforms

DataLion runs on the web and is also offered through API access and self-hosted deployment. The on-premise option is Docker-based, while dedicated hosted instances are another deployment route. This combination is useful for organizations with deployment requirements beyond a standard web service; no mobile platform is part of its stated platform range.

Who it's for

DataLion names market research institutes, in-house research and consumer-insights teams, agencies, HR teams and publishers as audiences. Its strongest case is for groups that need survey creation, advanced research analysis and interactive result sharing in one workflow. It is less compelling for buyers seeking only sales forecasting or pipeline reporting: those capabilities are marked as present, but the described product centers on research and dashboards.

Pros and cons

Pro: Survey publication can produce a dataset, codebook and live dashboard, reducing the handoffs between response collection and reporting.
Pro: Statistical and research methods such as weighting, ANOVA, MaxDiff and price sensitivity analysis serve needs beyond routine charting.
Pro: Multiple import sources, scheduled updates and export formats support projects that combine evidence and deliver results in different tools.
Con: Free is limited to one user, one project and 100 cases, and leaves out crosstabs, exports and AI analysis; meaningful team use therefore calls for a paid tier.
Con: Solo has one administrator licence but no listed viewer allowance; live dashboard sharing begins at Starter, priced at 350.00 EUR per month on annual billing, excluding VAT.
Con: Paid annual billing and Enterprise's minimum fee and annual contract are significant commitments for teams with uncertain or occasional research demand.

Alternatives

For sales-focused analytics, DataLion appears in the broader Sales Analytics Software category, but a specialist may fit better if the need is narrower:

Weflow is a paid option with no free plan and a free trial, and its listed platforms span mobile, desktop, web, API and extension; consider it when that platform breadth is more relevant than DataLion's research workflow.
Wizard AI Forecasts has a free plan and trial across Android, API, extension, iOS and web; consider it when its listed forecasting focus and free entry point better fit the job.
MoData offers a free plan for sales teams under five, with one data integration and ten pre-built dashboards; it may suit a small team that can work within those limits.
RevenueGrid is a paid, trial-available product with mobile, desktop, web, extension and self-hosted platforms; consider it if that platform range better matches deployment needs.
OptiKratos Email has a free tier with 15,000 emails per month; choose it when the relevant need is email volume rather than research analysis.
Goals.com offers full platform access on an annual plan and a 14-day free trial; it may fit buyers prioritizing that stated access and trial arrangement.
Fullcast Revenue Intelligence is a web-based paid option with a trial and custom pricing.
Gong Forecast is a paid forecasting option with per-user licences and a platform fee based on the number of users supported.

Verdict

Choose DataLion if your team needs a connected survey-to-analysis-to-dashboard workflow, especially for market or consumer research that benefits from statistical methods and multiple data sources. The free tier is useful for a small-scale start, but its 100-case cap, single-user limit and missing exports make it unsuitable for ongoing shared work. Look elsewhere if your primary need is sales forecasting or if the annual paid commitment and Starter's sharing price outweigh the value of DataLion's research depth.
