Overview

Oryx combines clinical charting and imaging with scheduling, patient communication, billing, and insurance verification. That reach can help a practice coordinate daily work without relying on separate systems for each function. It supports multiple locations, but standard plans cap included providers, so groups should account for add-on costs as they grow.

Oryx says practice data belongs to the practice, can be exported, and is not deleted when service ends until the practice has had time to export it. That is a useful safeguard for practices evaluating a cloud system, particularly when planning a future migration.

Key features

Clinical tools and imaging

AI features include voice periodontal charting, real-time transcription and summaries, AI exam charting, and AI-powered imaging. Pearl Second Opinion and Overjet are integrated into the imaging workflows. This makes Oryx a plausible choice for practices seeking AI support across documentation and image review; the AI plan's higher price means that interest should translate into regular use to justify the expense.

Patient and revenue workflows

Patients can book online, complete intake forms, use a portal, and communicate by two-way text. Automated reminders and provider calendars support appointment management. Billing and payments, insurance eligibility checks, claims processing, and automated revenue-cycle workflows extend the platform into collections and administration. This is a broad workflow set for practices seeking a shared system, rather than a reason on its own to choose Oryx if only one of those functions is needed.

Security and support

Oryx says it supports HIPAA, PIPEDA, and Ontario PHIPA requirements, encrypts stored data with AES-256 and data in transit with HTTPS/TLS, and offers two-factor authentication, role-based permissions, audit trails, and monitoring for unusual activity. Hosting is on Google Cloud Platform: US practices are hosted in US regions and Canadian practices in Montreal. Daily backups are retained for 90 days. Oryx also says identifiable patient information is not used to train its AI or machine-learning models.

Onboarding, migration, training, a dedicated success partner, and weekday phone support from 8am to 7pm CT give practices assistance through implementation and ongoing use. Those services may matter to offices moving established workflows into a cloud platform.

Pricing

Oryx has no free plan. Its standard monthly plans include up to two providers, with additional provider charges, so the base price is not the full cost for a larger practice.

Oryx Pro — 650.00 USD per month: Payments start 3 months after signup for new customers; includes up to 2 providers, with additional providers at +$100/mo each. It is the lower-priced standard option for practices that do not need the Oryx AI tier.
Oryx Automate — 899.00 USD per month: Payments start 3 months after signup for new customers; includes up to 2 providers, with additional providers at +$100/mo each. Its higher price over Pro is the relevant trade-off for practices seeking the Automate offering, though several Automate features are US-only.
Oryx AI — 1399.00 USD per month: Payments start 3 months after signup for new customers; includes up to 2 providers, with additional providers at +$200/mo each. This is the plan for practices seeking the AI tier, but the higher provider surcharge compounds the cost of adding clinicians.

Two startup offers target solo practices launching from scratch. Startup Offer — Oryx Pro & Oryx Automate is 0.00 USD per month, with a $1 setup fee; the regular monthly price starts at 200 patients or 12 months after signup, whichever comes first. Startup Offer — Oryx AI is 400.00 USD per month, also with a $1 setup fee and the same regular-price trigger; it includes AI Annotations & eScript. These offers lower the initial cost, but they are temporary rather than a long-term low-cost plan.

Practices outside the US should check the limits before choosing Automate or AI e-prescribing: several Automate features and Oryx AI e-prescription via MDToolbox are US-only.

Platforms

Oryx runs in the cloud and supports Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows. That range suits teams accessing the same practice system across mobile devices and desktop environments.

Who it's for

Oryx describes its audience as solo and independent practices, startups, pediatric and specialty practices, and multi-location groups and DSOs. The combination of patient self-booking, clinical tools, billing, and multi-location support best suits practices looking to consolidate these workflows. A small office with tight recurring-cost constraints, or a practice outside the US that needs region-limited features, has stronger reasons to compare alternatives.

Pros and cons

Pros: Clinical, patient, billing, and insurance workflows are combined, reducing the need to coordinate separate systems.
Pros: AI charting and imaging options include Pearl Second Opinion and Overjet integrations.
Pros: Export rights, a post-cancellation export window, and 90-day daily backup retention support continuity planning.
Cons: Standard plans start at 650.00 USD per month and include only two providers; adding providers raises the monthly bill.
Cons: AI is the most expensive standard tier, with a higher +$200/mo charge for each additional provider.
Cons: Several Automate features and MDToolbox e-prescribing are US-only, limiting their value for practices elsewhere.

Alternatives

For a narrower scheduling search, browse Dental Appointment Scheduling Software.

Open Dental is worth considering for practices seeking a freemium option, a free plan, or self-hosted deployment.
MolarPlus may suit a small clinic seeking a lower-cost paid option: its Plus plan is 4.00 USD per month when billed annually at $48/year, with one clinic, five staff logins, and quotas of 500 new patients and 500 appointments per month.
Dentella is an alternative for practices seeking a free tier, with a 1-chair limit on its Free plan and online bookings.
Practice-Web is another paid alternative, with a free trial and a Windows platform option.
DentinCloud is worth comparing for a small practice seeking a free web-based plan capped at two users and 250 patients.
Dentalink is another paid practice-management option.
ABELDent may fit a Windows-only practice looking for a free entry tier, while noting that telephone support, training, updates, migration, and premium options are chargeable.
Curve Dental is another paid option with Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows support.

Verdict

Choose Oryx Dental if your practice wants clinical charting, patient engagement, and revenue workflows under one cloud system, with AI tools and data-export provisions. Look elsewhere if the standard monthly price and provider surcharges strain the budget, or if your practice depends on Automate or MDToolbox features that are limited to the US.
