Overview

Givebutter combines nonprofit fundraising, donor management, and supporter engagement in one platform. It is best suited to organizations that want campaign tools alongside a substantial free CRM; the main decision is whether its Plus features justify a contact-based subscription and the applicable payment fees.

Its fundraising mix covers donation forms and pages, events, auctions, and peer-to-peer campaigns, with recurring gifts and campaign reporting also supported. A free mobile app extends donation, event, and campaign tasks to iOS and Android, although using it requires a Givebutter account.

Key features

Fundraising: Multiple campaign formats make Givebutter a practical option for organizations running appeals, events, auctions, or peer-to-peer drives from one service. Recurring donations support ongoing giving. Payment processing is separate, so platform pricing is not the whole cost calculation.
Donor CRM: The free CRM includes unlimited contacts, donor histories, custom fields, notes, tags, and reporting. That removes a common constraint for organizations building a large supporter database, though advanced reports and other Plus capabilities require a paid tier.
Plus tools: Plus adds automated workflows, task management, an advanced email editor, texting, custom reports, expanded data visualizations, file uploads, data hygiene, and discounted direct mail. These tools are relevant to teams that need more structured communication and operations; smaller organizations may not need them.
Integrations: Givebutter says it connects to more than 1,000 third-party applications through native integrations and Zapier automations. Named options include Mailchimp, Salesforce, HubSpot, and Stripe. QuickBooks Online is available with Plus, a meaningful restriction for organizations that need that accounting connection on the free tier.
Mobile and safeguards: The free iOS and Android app supports donations, event management, and campaign tracking. Tap to Pay requires an iPhone XS or later running iOS 16.0+, or an Android 11+ device with NFC. Givebutter says Stripe processes payments as its PCI-compliant partner, and it offers two-factor authentication and campaign reviews for fraud prevention.
Support: Givebutter says support is free for all users and available 24/7, which benefits organizations using the free plan as well as paid customers.

Pricing

Free forever: Free, billed monthly. This plan includes donation forms, fundraising pages, events, auctions, donor management and CRM, marketing and engagement. Givebutter also describes the free tier as including unlimited users, contacts, email blasts, and fundraising campaigns. It is a strong fit for organizations that can work within the included feature set, with no CRM contact ceiling.

Givebutter Plus: 29.00 USD per month, billed annually. The paid tier adds automated workflows, task management, an advanced email editor, texting, custom reports, and expanded data visualizations, alongside the other Plus features. The contact-based pricing page gives these monthly tiers: up to 250 contacts at $29/mo, up to 1,000 contacts at $79/mo, and up to 2,500 contacts at $129/mo. Each listed contact tier includes advanced features and a 30-day commitment-free trial. Plus pricing is a better match for teams that will use those tools; as the contact allowance rises, the subscription cost does too, unlike the unlimited-contact free CRM. The page lists additional tiers through 50,000+ contacts.

Fees also depend on tips: with optional tips enabled, Givebutter lists 0% platform fees; with tips disabled, it lists a 3% platform fee and 2.9% + 30¢ processing fees. Organizations should compare that choice with their own fundraising model rather than treating the free subscription as fee-free processing.

Platforms

Givebutter runs on web, iOS, and Android. Tap to Pay has device and operating-system requirements: iPhone XS or later with iOS 16.0+, or Android 11+ with NFC.

Who it's for

Givebutter suits nonprofits that want fundraising formats and donor records together, especially those that value unlimited contacts and users without a subscription. It is less compelling for organizations that need Plus tools but have a large contact base, since Plus pricing scales by contacts, or for teams whose requirements do not align with Givebutter's stated fee conditions.

Pros and cons

Pro: The free CRM has unlimited contacts, donor histories, and customization fields, making it viable for a growing donor database without a contact cap.
Pro: Forms, events, auctions, and peer-to-peer campaigns sit alongside donor management, reducing the need to separate those fundraising activities from contact records.
Pro: Free 24/7 support and a free mobile app extend practical support and campaign tasks beyond the web service.
Con: Plus prices rise with contact volume, so organizations that need its automation or reporting may face a substantially higher monthly bill as their database grows.
Con: Payment processing is separate, and the platform-fee terms differ depending on whether optional tips are enabled; that makes transaction economics important to evaluate alongside the subscription.
Con: QuickBooks Online integration is reserved for Plus, limiting that connection for organizations staying on the free plan.

Alternatives

For a narrower matching-gift focus, Amply offers a free feature-limited plan with no flat fees, while its Standard plan is 5.00 USD per contact for everything included. BetterWorld is another freemium option: its Free plan has a 0% platform fee with standard processing charges, while Flex adds a 2.2-5% platform fee.

GoFundMe Pro is worth considering for nonprofits with annual revenue under $1 million seeking its Essentials package, which has no subscription or setup costs. Whitelabel may suit organizations that prefer per-gift charges rather than monthly or setup fees; card and bank costs are passed through at cost.

GivingFuel offers a paid Starter plan at 9.00 USD per month for annual online giving under $100,000, with a 2% platform fee and one admin account. DonorOS, GiveCampus GC Outreach, and FrontStream Matching Gifts are alternatives to consider when evaluating nonprofit software in their respective areas.

Verdict

Givebutter is a strong choice for a nonprofit that wants broad fundraising tools and an unlimited-contact CRM without a subscription. Choose it when the free feature set and its fee model fit; look elsewhere if the Plus contact tiers or transaction charges outweigh the value of keeping campaigns and donor records together.
