Overview

Accounts, invoicing, sales, procurement, stock, manufacturing, projects, point of sale, HR and payroll give ERPNext a wide operational reach. Multi-entity support extends that reach across subsidiaries and branches, with multiple currencies, consolidated reports and configurable tax compliance. This breadth is useful when several functions need to work together, but organizations should plan who will configure and implement the system.

ERPNext is made by ERPNext, founded in 2008 and headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Its hybrid deployment options let organizations self-host or use Frappe Cloud. Buyers comparing ERP Software should weigh that hosting choice alongside the scope of the modules.

Key features

Adaptable workflows and data

A low-code and no-code builder supports changes to forms, reports, print formats, dashboards and workflows. This can help organizations adapt processes without starting from scratch, although customization still calls for a clear owner and implementation plan.

Integration and access

Frappe automatically exposes ERPNext DocTypes through REST API endpoints for reading, creating, updating and deleting records where permissions allow. Official integration categories include services for file storage, payments, commerce, identity and Google services, including Dropbox, Stripe, Shopify, LDAP and Google Drive. That combination can support connections to other systems, while API actions remain governed by permissions.

ERPNext and Frappe Framework provide OTP or two-factor authentication, IP restriction, granular field-level roles and permissions, and an advanced audit trail. Frappe says its quality and information security systems are certified to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 27001:2013, and that Frappe Cloud is GDPR compliant. These controls and claims matter to organizations assessing access and security requirements.

Support and implementation

Product Warranty covers engineer support for fixing bugs, not functional support. Organizations needing help with business processes should distinguish that boundary from implementation or support through Frappe's global network of 200+ trained and certified partners, which also handles customizations and integrations.

Pricing

ERPNext has a free, open-source self-hosted route under AGPL-3.0 with no product charge. The tradeoff is that hosting and deployment are on your own server. Frappe Cloud Sites starts at 5.00 USD per month, billed monthly, for one site with managed upgrades and backups on shared-server hosting. It is the lower-effort hosting option for a single site.

Frappe Cloud Servers starts at 20.00 USD per month, billed monthly, for virtual-machine hosting that supports multiple sites and benches. A separate Sites plan is 5.00 USD per month onwards and includes a single site, managed upgrades and backups, scripting and custom apps, Product Warranty and shared-server hosting. Servers is 125.00 USD per month onwards, with dedicated-server isolation, snapshots, autoscaling, stronger reliability guarantees, global data-centre locations and Product Warranty. Choose based on hosting needs and the level of isolation and reliability required; these are distinct plan descriptions and prices.

A 14-day trial is offered. The listed paid entry price is 5 /mo; compare the individual plan terms before choosing, since server plans carry different capabilities and costs.

Platforms

ERPNext runs on the web and supports Linux, macOS, API access and self-hosting. The range suits organizations that want deployment control or programmatic integration, rather than buyers looking solely for a mobile app.

Who it's for

ERPNext is a strong fit for businesses that need a broad set of connected modules, multi-entity operations or configurable workflows and can arrange hosting and implementation. Its partner network offers an implementation path for enterprise and smaller businesses, as well as freelancers and DIY users. It is less suitable for teams expecting Product Warranty to provide functional guidance or wanting a tightly managed implementation without planning for it.

For readers in food production, Food Manufacturing Software is a relevant category to compare alongside ERP options.

Pros and cons

Broad operational coverage: finance, stock, manufacturing, projects, point of sale, HR and payroll can sit in one ERP.
Deployment choice: self-hosting avoids a product charge, while Frappe Cloud offers managed hosting options.
Flexible configuration: builders, API endpoints and integrations support adapting workflows and connecting systems.
Support boundary: Product Warranty fixes bugs but excludes functional support, so buyers may need a separate implementation or support arrangement.

Alternatives

Tryton is worth considering for a free, open-source business system with self-hosting or third-party hosting; it also supports Windows.
Epicor Kinetic may suit buyers seeking platform cores, cloud packages, concurrent-user licensing and industry bundles.
Exact Online is an option for buyers seeking web-based accounting with CRM, bank feeds and invoicing; it has a free trial but no free plan.
Deltek Maconomy is positioned as enterprise ERP for professional services firms, with pricing by demo request.
Trimble Viewpoint Vista offers cloud-hosted and on-premises deployment for buyers who want those options; pricing is by contacting sales.
Odoo ERP offers a free one-app plan with unlimited users; consider it when that narrower starting scope fits.
BUSY has a free billing and accounting plan covering multiple companies and financial years, for buyers focused on that work.
FacturaScripts is another freemium option with a self-hosted plan.

Verdict

Choose ERPNext if you need broad business coverage, multi-entity capabilities and the freedom to self-host or use Frappe Cloud, and can plan for configuration and implementation. Look elsewhere if you require functional support as part of bug-fix coverage or want a more narrowly defined deployment and support arrangement.
