Overview

OnlineExamMaker is an assessment and course platform for schools and enterprises that need to create, deliver and grade exams alongside training materials. It combines a broad set of assessment tools with both online and on-premise options, though exam quotas and API eligibility make plan choice important.

Key features

The question bank supports up to 10 question types, with bulk imports from Word and Excel to help teams move existing question sets into online assessments. Exams can be sent by email or link, embedded in a website or WordPress blog, and opened on mobile devices. Automatic grading handles objective questions, while exam and candidate reports support result review.

Identity verification, a secure exam browser and live monitoring give administrators several ways to deter cheating during higher-stakes assessments. The LMS combines courses with assessments and accepts video, audio, PPT, PDF and Word materials, making the platform useful beyond one-off testing. Selling exams requires configuring Stripe payment settings.

API and single sign-on connect exam data and users with external systems, but API access in the online offering is limited to Premium users. The on-premise version runs on customer infrastructure and is described as providing data ownership and automatic backups. LAN Exam Maker installation is documented for Windows and Linux servers.

Pricing

OnlineExamMaker is freemium, with a 14-day trial and paid plans starting at $19/mo. The free plan is free and allows 3 exams/month, 50 attempts/exam/month, 150 total attempts/month, 10 concurrent takers and 50 candidates. Those caps suit limited pilots or small-scale use, but will constrain recurring programs with multiple exams or larger cohorts.

Premium, Essentials and Professional online plans have custom pricing. Premium includes unlimited exams and attempts, 500 concurrent takers, 3,000 candidates and three free sub-admins. It is the only online plan identified with API access, making it the relevant option for organizations that need integrations, though its concurrent-taker and candidate limits still matter. Essentials permits 30 exams/month, 500 attempts per exam/month and 15,000 total attempts/month, with 100 concurrent takers and 500 candidates. Professional raises those quotas to 200 exams/month, 2,000 attempts per exam/month and 400,000 total attempts/month, with 200 concurrent takers and 2,000 candidates.

The LAN Exam Maker plans are one-time purchases rather than recurring subscriptions. Standard costs 2999.00 USD per once and includes a lifetime license, free updates, one admin account and capacity for 300 concurrent exam takers. Its 5×8 email and live chat support make it a narrower fit for teams that can work within business-hours support. Professional costs 4999.00 USD per once, supports 1,000 concurrent takers, adds unlimited sub-admins and API & SSO, and includes a lifetime license and free updates; it also lists 7×16 support and remote assistance. Institution costs 5999.00 USD per once and adds unlimited training courses and learning record exports to the Professional features. It is the clearest fit for organizations pairing large-scale exams with ongoing training. These plans are substantial upfront commitments, but avoid recurring license fees.

Platforms

OnlineExamMaker supports Android, iOS, Linux, Windows and web, as well as API and self-hosted deployments. The documented LAN Exam Maker installation runs on Windows and Linux servers, giving organizations an option to keep the deployment on their own infrastructure.

Who it's for

Schools and enterprises that want assessment creation, delivery, grading, reports and course materials in one system are the strongest fit. The product is particularly relevant when mobile exam access, anti-cheating measures or an on-premise deployment matter. Organizations with modest exam volume can start with the free plan; larger cohorts should compare candidate and concurrency caps carefully. Readers who need an API for the online product should account for Premium eligibility.

Pros and cons

Pro: Bulk Word and Excel imports and up to 10 question types support varied assessment workflows without limiting authoring to one format.
Pro: Automatic grading, reports and multiple anti-cheating measures cover important parts of assessment administration.
Pro: Course materials and assessments share an LMS, while the on-premise option provides a customer-hosted alternative.
Con: The free plan's 150 total monthly attempts and 10 concurrent takers are restrictive for sustained or larger-scale use.
Con: Online API access is limited to Premium, so lower-tier online plans are not suitable when API integration is required.
Con: LAN licenses require a significant one-time payment, and support coverage differs between Standard and higher plans.

Alternatives

Assessment Software is the broader category for comparing assessment products. Consider Wayground (formerly Quizizz) if its free Starter (Basic) plan's 20 activity limit and up to 100 participants per session fit your needs. TAO is another freemium option, with a free-forever Starter plan that includes one author seat and 50 learner test attempts/month. Testportal may suit readers considering a free EDU plan with 100 results storage. Plickers offers a free plan capped at five questions per set and 63 students per class. Socrative is an alternative with a free plan limited to five quizzes, one room and 50 students per activity. FlexiQuiz offers a free plan with unlimited quizzes but caps usage at 20 responses/month and 10 questions per quiz. Synap is a paid option with a Standard plan priced at 1200.00 GBP per year. GradeSense is another freemium alternative.

Verdict

Choose OnlineExamMaker if your school or enterprise wants exams, anti-cheating tools, reporting and course materials in one platform, or needs a customer-hosted LAN deployment. Its main advantage is that breadth across assessment and learning; look elsewhere if the free quotas are too tight, if you need online API access without Premium, or if the LAN plans' upfront costs do not fit your budget.
