Overview

Studio brings sample manipulation, stem separation, sequencing and DJ-oriented tools into one desktop application. That mix is particularly useful when a beat or edit starts with an existing track: users can isolate its parts, reshape samples and export audio in separate pieces. Serato released Studio in June 2019 and is headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand. Using the software requires a Serato.com account.

Serato says it uses security procedures to protect personal information, limits access to stored data in controlled facilities and encrypts data in transit with TLS or SSL. Its Studio support section offers help requests and product guides.

Key features

Sampling and stem separation

The Sample Deck syncs imported samples to a project's BPM and key, with chopping, time stretching, key shifting, reverse and effects for further reshaping. Studio can also separate acapella, melody, bassline and drum stems in real time. These are practical tools for producers building edits from source audio, though they make less difference to a workflow based mainly on original performances or finished loops.

Sequencing, instruments and exports

A step sequencer is paired with more than 190 instruments, including bass, keys, synths, pads, percussion, guitars and orchestral sounds. VST3 and Audio Unit effects and instrument plugins extend that palette. Studio can export tracks, mixes, loops or individual drum pads as separate audio files, useful when a project needs to be handed off or reused in parts.

DJ and hardware integration

Integration with Serato DJ crates and FX plugins, plus MIDI hardware mapping, gives DJs a more direct path from beat-making to their existing setup. Native control for AlphaTheta SLAB is also supported. The DJ connections are a meaningful advantage for Serato users, but less compelling for producers who do not use those tools.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes selected sound packs, limited recording, one audio track, four decks and four scenes. Automation is disabled. That is enough to explore the workflow, but the single audio track and absent automation make it a poor fit for unrestricted production.

Subscribe costs 9.99 USD per month. It includes Serato Studio, Serato Sample and Serato Hex FX as the Producer Suite, all sound packs, unlimited recording, audio tracks and decks, 32 scenes, and cancellation anytime. Serato also includes 24/7 support with the subscription. This is the clearest fit for regular users who want the complete Studio workflow and the bundled tools.

The Buy plan is priced at 149.00 USD per month and provides unlimited audio tracks and decks, plus 32 scenes. Unlike Subscribe, the stated plan benefits do not include the Producer Suite, all sound packs, unlimited recording or 24/7 support. Compare those inclusions carefully before choosing it; Subscribe offers broader stated benefits at a lower monthly price. A 14-day trial is available.

Platforms

Serato Studio runs on macOS and Windows. It supports VST3 and Audio Unit plugins, MIDI mapping, and MP3, WAV and stems exports.

Who it's for

Studio is best suited to producers who build from samples and DJs who make custom edits, especially those already working with Serato DJ crates or FX. Its real-time stem separation, varied instrument set and separate audio exports serve different parts of that workflow. Choose another tool if you need a generous free production setup: Studio's free mode limits scenes, decks and tracks and disables automation.

Pros and cons

Pro: Real-time separation into four stem types gives editors and remixers source material to rearrange.
Pro: Serato DJ integration and MIDI mapping make it a natural option for producers connecting beat-making with DJ hardware and crates.
Pro: Separate exports for tracks, mixes, loops and drum pads support flexible audio handoffs.
Con: Free mode allows only one audio track, four decks and four scenes, with automation disabled.
Con: It requires a Serato.com account, and its desktop platform support excludes mobile and Linux.

Verdict

Choose Serato Studio if sample-led beat-making or DJ edits are central to your work and Serato's integrations will save friction. Its strongest case is the combination of stem separation, sample tools and DJ connections, with separate exports for flexible handoffs. Look elsewhere if you need a capable free setup or a mobile and Linux app; Studio's free limits and desktop-only platforms make it a narrower choice.
