Overview

WEX FSM brings field scheduling, customer and equipment records, proposals, invoicing, and payments into one system for trade contractors. It is strongest for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and roofing businesses that want office and field work connected; the key trade-off is that core dispatch features and some payment arrangements may carry costs beyond the free entry point.

Technicians can work from a mobile app, including offline, and prepare proposals or take payments in the field. That breadth makes WEX FSM worth considering for teams with varied service and payment workflows, but buyers should check the volume condition on Payment Options and account for extra integration or flat-rate feature fees.

Key features

Scheduling and field operations

The dispatch board combines drag-and-drop scheduling with dispatch groups, coverage zones, GIS maps, and technician navigation. These tools suit businesses coordinating multiple technicians across service areas; offline mode also helps keep field work moving without a reliable connection. Invoicing, job costing, equipment tracking, and equipment histories connect job execution with the records needed to manage assets and costs.

Customer records and proposals

Customer accounts can hold service records, notes, attachments, and contact details, including for customers with multiple locations. Technicians can build proposals on site, compare replacement options, and add financing options. This is useful for contractors who quote equipment replacements in the field rather than separating that work from service calls.

Payments and integrations

Payment channels include card processing, mobile card readers, online pay, mobile check imaging, ACH, and recurring payments. Customers can pay through an email or text link, a Bluetooth card reader, or entered card or bank information. QuickBooks Online and Desktop sync are supported, while Azuga vehicle tracking, Profit Rhino and Enhanced Pricebooks, and Advanced Reporting are among the other integrations. Integration fees may apply, and the flat-rate pricing feature also has additional costs, so those capabilities should be evaluated against the expected operating budget.

Support is available by chat, phone, or email Monday through Friday, 8am–7pm EST. Onboarding includes data cleansing and loading, team onboarding, and training resources, a meaningful service for businesses moving existing customer and job data into a new system.

Pricing

WEX FSM uses a freemium model, but its free offer is focused on payments rather than the full dispatch workflow. The Free plan is free and includes debit and credit card processing, mobile card readers and online payments, multi-lender financing, instant loan applications, mobile check imaging, and ACH. It is a reasonable starting point for a contractor seeking those payment tools, but it does not include the Enterprise scheduling and dispatch features described in the plan.

Payment Options is billed free when card and/or financing volume exceeds $25,000/mo; it costs $69/mo below that threshold. It adds recurring payments to the Free plan’s payment capabilities. The volume condition matters: businesses with lower eligible monthly volume should budget for the monthly charge.

Enterprise has custom pricing and includes customer appointment notifications, drag-and-drop scheduling, dispatching and navigation, invoicing, job costing, and equipment tracking. It fits contractors who need an integrated operational workflow rather than payment processing alone. Unlimited also has custom pricing and provides unlimited users, which may suit larger teams; the user allowance of other plans is not given. Compare these plan scopes directly before choosing, and include possible integration and flat-rate feature costs in the total.

Platforms

WEX FSM runs on Android, iOS, and the web. The technician mobile app and offline mode support field use alongside office-based scheduling and records.

Who it's for

WEX FSM is aimed at trade contractors, particularly HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and roofing businesses. It is a better fit for teams that need customer and equipment histories, field proposals, and varied payment options alongside scheduling. A contractor seeking only a free, fully featured dispatch system should look elsewhere: the free plan’s stated inclusions center on payments, while drag-and-drop scheduling and dispatch appear under Enterprise.

Pros and cons

Broad payment coverage: Card, ACH, mobile check imaging, financing, and recurring payments support different ways of collecting from customers.
Field-to-office workflow: Dispatch, customer and equipment records, proposals, invoicing, and job costing address connected parts of a contractor’s operation.
Offline field work: Technicians can maintain productivity on the go without relying on a live connection.
Free does not mean full dispatch: The free plan lists payment capabilities, while scheduling and dispatch are included in the custom-priced Enterprise plan.
Cost can extend beyond the plan: Payment Options costs $69/mo below the stated volume threshold, and integration or flat-rate feature fees may add expense.

Choose ServiceM8 if its free plan’s one-user, 30-jobs-per-month cap fits your workload and you want a free trial. Tradify is an option for buyers who prefer a paid plan with a stated $47.00 USD per month Lite price and a free trial. Consider FieldAware if you want a paid field-service product with a free trial across Android, iOS, web, and API access. Jobber may suit a smaller operation seeking a one-user Core plan, listed at $29.00 USD per month billed annually, with a free trial. Joblogic offers a paid Standard plan at £45.00 GBP per month billed annually and a free trial. Fergus is another paid option with a free trial and quoting, estimating, job cards, GPS tracking, timesheets, calendar, and recurring jobs in its Essentials plan. Choose BigChange if you want a price-by-request plan that includes support, CRM, job scheduling, a mobile app, live tracking, quotes and invoices, business intelligence, and collaboration. ServiceWorks is another paid alternative, with a Bronze plan priced at $150.00 USD per month.

Verdict

WEX FSM is a strong candidate for trade contractors who want payment tools tied to field proposals, customer and equipment records, and dispatch operations. Its range of payment methods and offline mobile workflow are compelling, but the free plan is not a substitute for the Enterprise scheduling package, and volume-based payment pricing plus extra fees can change the economics. Choose it when that connected workflow is worth the cost; look elsewhere if a free full-service dispatch system or simpler, predictable pricing is the priority.
