Overview

The tool pairs spreadsheet imports with table-based and visual editing, giving managers a choice between changing employee records and arranging the chart. It handles charts as large as 2,500 people on the free tier, yet free PNG exports are watermarked and capped at 250 people. That split makes it practical for building or reviewing large charts at no cost, but not for distributing clean files of that size without paying.

Key features

Imports and editing

Org Chart Studio imports Excel, CSV, and Google Sheets. Import intelligence can flag missing managers and correct some naming errors, helping users identify common roster problems before sharing a chart. Changes can be made in a spreadsheet-like table or by dragging items on the desktop visual canvas. Custom employee fields and API access add flexibility, but the product has no directory or HRIS sync; teams that need employee changes to flow automatically from those systems should look elsewhere.

Exports, themes, and AI

Exports cover PowerPoint, PDF, PNG, and CSV. PowerPoint output uses native shapes and text, which is more useful for people who want to adjust the chart in a presentation than a flat image would be. Users can select a theme or customize colors, cards, and connectors in the Theme Editor. MCP connections let AI agents such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini build and edit charts, a specialized option for teams that want to bring those tools into chart workflows.

Privacy and support

Chart data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Original spreadsheets selected in the browser app are not uploaded or retained as part of import, and organizational chart data and employee information are not used to train, fine-tune, or improve AI or machine-learning systems. Questions, ideas, and bug reports can be sent to hello@orgchartstudio.com.

Pricing

The free Always plan is free, has no subscription, and allows up to 10 charts with up to 2,500 people per chart. Its clean-output limitation is significant: free PNG exports are watermarked and limited to charts of up to 250 people.

Paid options are one-time export passes, not subscriptions: 1-Day costs 1.00 USD per once for 24 hours of clean exports; 7-Day costs 5.00 USD per once for a week; 30-Day costs 10.00 USD per once for 30 days; and Annual costs 100.00 USD per once for a year. Each pass covers every chart in the account, is sized according to the largest chart, and does not renew automatically. All listed passes cover up to 250 people, so confirm that the account's largest chart fits before buying. Short passes suit occasional export needs; Annual is the longer-duration choice for recurring clean exports, but it does not raise the stated size cap.

Platforms

Org Chart Studio runs on the web. Editing on the visual canvas is described as a desktop workflow.

Who it's for

This is a strong fit for managers who want to turn spreadsheets into presentable charts, edit data or layout directly, and avoid per-seat charges. It is less suitable for organizations that depend on automatic directory or HRIS synchronization, or need clean exports for charts above the 250-person pass limit.

Pros and cons

Generous chart capacity on the free tier: up to 10 charts and 2,500 people per chart makes it possible to work with large structures before paying.
Two editing approaches: a table and a drag-and-drop desktop canvas accommodate both record cleanup and visual adjustments.
Editable PowerPoint output: native shapes and text make exported charts easier to adapt in presentations.
Clean exports have a size constraint: free PNGs are watermarked, and paid passes cover charts only up to 250 people.
No automatic HR-system sync: teams must not expect directory or HRIS changes to update charts automatically.

Workleap Pingboard is an alternative with Android, iOS, web, and API platforms, and paid annual plans starting at 4,999 USD.

Verdict

Choose Org Chart Studio if you are a manager who wants spreadsheet-based chart creation, flexible editing, and no per-seat charge, and can keep clean exports within the 250-person pass limit. Its free capacity is generous for chart work, but teams needing larger clean exports or automatic HR-system sync should choose another tool.
