Overview

Speedscale captures and replays production traffic in Kubernetes to check changes against real request patterns. It can also derive load tests from that traffic and virtualize flaky or third-party dependencies with production-realistic responses. That combination is useful when synthetic requests miss important behavior or when tests depend too heavily on outside services.

Deployment is hybrid: teams can use Speedscale cloud or run its full stack in their AWS, GCP, or Azure account. Its BYOC option keeps traffic inside that VPC, which can suit organizations with tighter data-boundary requirements. Speedscale offers DLP redaction and says sensitive data can be retroactively deleted after leakage; it has completed an AICPA SOC 2 Type I audit.

Key features

Replay, virtualization, and load testing

Replay gives teams a practical way to validate application changes using captured Kubernetes traffic rather than only hand-built requests. Virtualized dependencies can make tests less vulnerable to unreliable services, while preserving realistic responses. Captured traffic can become load tests that track latency and throughput against budgets; stress testing and distributed load are supported. This is a meaningful advantage for API and service performance work, though teams focused on browser behavior will need another tool.

Integrations and protocol coverage

Pipeline integrations include GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Google Cloud Deploy, AWS CodeBuild, Bitbucket Pipelines, TeamCity, and CircleCI. Speedscale also works with GitHub Actions, k6, and Postman. Documentation describes full support for HTTP, gRPC, Kafka, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, and many other protocols, databases, and APIs, but IMAP is capture-only and mTLS support is partial. Those edge cases matter if either is central to the services under test.

Local mocking

Free proxymock provides unlimited local API mocking, basic traffic recording, a desktop CLI, and a local development setup. Native command-line installation options are available for macOS, Linux, and Windows. It is a useful low-commitment way to mock APIs locally, but it is not the same scope as the cloud product's advanced replay, CI/CD integration, dashboards, and team collaboration.

Pricing

Speedscale uses a freemium model, but the cloud product plans have custom pricing rather than published prices. The free option is proxymock, not a free tier of the full cloud service.

Free (proxymock): Free. Includes unlimited local mocking, basic traffic recording, community support, a desktop CLI tool, and local development setup. Best for individual developers or teams that need local API mocks; it gives up the advanced cloud replay and collaboration features.
Pro (Speedscale cloud): custom pricing. Includes advanced traffic replay, CI/CD integration, priority email support, team collaboration and a dashboard, plus cloud multi-tenant storage. This is the relevant plan for teams bringing replay into cloud-based delivery workflows.
Enterprise: custom pricing. Includes custom deployment, dedicated support and SLAs, SSO and enterprise controls, a BYOC option, and a cloud dedicated tenant. It suits organizations that need a dedicated environment or enterprise controls, though it costs more than the local-only entry point by virtue of being a custom enterprise plan.

A free trial is available. Support rises from community support on Free to priority email on Pro and dedicated channels and onboarding on Enterprise. There are no published seat or usage quotas for the cloud plans to compare, so teams should confirm scope and terms before choosing between them.

Platforms

Speedscale supports API, Linux, macOS, self-hosted, web, and Windows environments. The product is hybrid, with cloud and customer-cloud deployment options. Browser-based testing is not supported, so its platform breadth should not be mistaken for browser test coverage.

Who it's for

Speedscale is a strong match for cloud-native engineering teams that want to test services against captured production traffic, exercise distributed load, and reduce dependence on unreliable third-party systems. BYOC and data redaction make it more relevant to teams with traffic-handling constraints. It is a weaker fit for browser-focused quality assurance or for teams whose key protocols rely on IMAP capture or mTLS.

Pros and cons

Pro: Captured production traffic powers replay and load tests, making validation more representative of real service behavior.
Pro: Service virtualization and unlimited local proxymock address both unreliable dependencies and local API development.
Pro: BYOC keeps traffic inside a customer's AWS, GCP, or Azure VPC, with DLP redaction and retroactive deletion as additional data-handling measures.
Con: No browser-based testing means browser-centric teams need a separate testing product.
Con: IMAP is capture-only and mTLS support is partial, so protocol coverage is not uniform.
Con: Pro and Enterprise pricing is custom, making cloud-plan cost comparison harder than evaluating the free local tool.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison of this category, see Performance Testing Software.

Artillery is a freemium alternative with a Team plan at 199.00 USD per month, including 1,000 reports per month, six months of data retention, eight team members, and up to 25 workers per distributed test. Choose it when those stated team and reporting terms fit better than Speedscale's custom-priced cloud plans.
Tricentis Testim has a free plan at no cost for up to 1,000 runs per month, with paid plans customized to mobile and web testing needs. It is the alternative to consider when that mobile and web testing focus is closer to your requirement.
Keysight Eggplant Test is an enterprise software option with quote-based pricing.
Gatling offers a Basic annual plan at 89.00 EUR per year, billed annually (€1,068/year), with up to 60,000 VUs, one hour of testing, one load generator, and two seats. Choose it when those published load-testing limits and annual terms suit your needs.
LoadFocus offers a free API Monitoring plan at no cost, with 10,000 checks per month, five-minute check frequency, one-month data retention, and SSL certificate monitoring. It is an alternative when API monitoring under those free-plan limits is the priority.
Loadster Synthetic Monitoring has a free account starter offer of 50 free units, with 50 starter units per new account and no monthly refill. It may suit readers considering that limited starter allocation.
Taurus is a free and open-source option under the Apache 2.0 License.
Apica LoadTest offers a subscription-based self-service portal with on-demand platform access and an Apica load-testing network.

Verdict

Choose Speedscale if your team builds cloud-native services and wants replay, dependency virtualization, and load testing grounded in production traffic, especially when BYOC matters. Look elsewhere if browser testing is central, protocol gaps affect your systems, or you need transparent cloud-plan pricing before committing.
