Overview

Pixum makes photo books and other printed photo products from personal pictures, with web, app and desktop design tools. It suits people creating keepsakes for trips, weddings or family occasions who want a choice between arranging pages themselves and starting from an automatic draft. Its design routes are broad, but the right book depends on its format, page capacity and delivery-country rules.

Key features

Three ways to make a book

You can work in the web editor, Pixum app or Pixum Photo World software. Photo World offers templates, layouts, maps, GPS routes, QR-code links to videos and photo-editing tools, making it the stronger route for a travel album or a more deliberately composed project. The app’s MagicBooks feature arranges selected pictures into a suggested book that you can revise; drag-and-drop layouts, text, clipart, background colours and stickers provide further customisation. That automatic start can save time, but users seeking the broadest listed creative toolkit should use Photo World.

Books are available in landscape, portrait and square formats, with booklet, softcover and hardcover options. Pixum supports print ordering and PDF export, so a project can become either a physical book or a digital file. Page capacity depends on the product: classic binding allows up to 202 pages, layflat up to 130, and the small square book up to 74. For a long album, check the binding and format before designing; the small square option cannot accommodate the same length as classic binding.

Privacy, materials and ordering

Pixum says uploaded image data remains in a private online gallery for 28 days, saved projects for up to 36 months, and production data for up to 12 weeks after delivery before deletion. Diginet GmbH & Co. KG is identified as the brand owner and GDPR data controller. Inside pages of all Pixum photo books are FSC-certified. These details matter to customers weighing image retention and paper sourcing, though they do not change the format-specific page limits.

Orders must be made using the software version for the delivery country, and billing and shipping addresses must be in the same country. This is a practical constraint for people ordering across borders. Customer support is available by email at service@pixum.com, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Pricing

Pixum is freemium, with a free plan and paid photo books priced as one-time purchases rather than subscriptions. The listed prices are for 26 pages; additional pages are charged in four-page increments:

Book	Price	Extra pages
Small square, 15×15 cm, booklet, premium matt paper	£9.95 once	£1.40 per 4 pages
Small landscape, 19×15 cm, hardcover, premium matt paper	£22.95 once	£2.10 per 4 pages
Large landscape, 28×21 cm, hardcover, premium matt paper	£34.95 once	£2.90 per 4 pages
XL square, 30×30 cm, hardcover, premium matt paper	£49.95 once	£4.50 per 4 pages
XXL landscape, 38×29 cm, hardcover, premium matt paper	£69.95 once	£5.70 per 4 pages

The small square booklet is the lowest-cost route into a printed book, but its 74-page ceiling makes it a poor fit for a very long album. The larger hardcover options cost more at the outset and for each extra four pages; they suit buyers who want a larger format and expect to use more of the available capacity. The listed prices do not establish a single cost for every format, so choose by size, binding and page count rather than comparing only the starting price.

Platforms

Pixum supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows. The web editor, mobile app and desktop software give customers several creation routes, while PDF export and print ordering cover digital and physical output. That breadth is useful when a project begins on one device and is finished on another, although orders still need to use the software version intended for the delivery country.

Who it's for

Pixum is a good match for people turning personal pictures into a considered printed keepsake, especially for travel, weddings, babies and family memories. It also fits users who want either app-based automatic layout suggestions or the more extensive tools in Photo World. It is less suitable for cross-border gifting where billing and delivery countries differ, or for buyers who need a small-square book longer than its 74-page maximum.

Pros and cons

Several creation routes: web, app and desktop software let users choose between device convenience and Photo World’s broader set of creative tools.
Useful app automation: MagicBooks turns selected photos into an editable suggestion, rather than locking users into an automatic result.
Clear book-size trade-offs: formats range from a £9.95 small booklet to an XXL hardcover at £69.95, with extra-page charges that rise by size.
Page limits vary substantially: classic binding reaches 202 pages, but layflat is capped at 130 and the small square book at 74.
Country restrictions complicate some orders: the software version must match the delivery country, and billing and shipping must be in the same country.

Alternatives

For a photo book, compare Photo Book Software. If the project is a calendar rather than a book, browse Photo Calendar Software; for printed pictures without a book format, see Photo Printing Software.

Saal Digital is worth comparing if you want a freemium photo service with a stated free tier of 10 GB storage, 12% commission on download revenue and 0% commission on photo products. Hofmann is another book option, with a listed 13.99 EUR small landscape hardcover album priced once and a 24–120-page range, plus extra-page charges. For a calendar instead, PhotobookShop Calendars lists a 12-page desk calendar at 19.95 USD once, with shipping extra. posterXXL, Photobox, Popsa, CreatePhotoCalendars.com and Lulu Calendar Creator are also alternatives to consider.

Verdict

Choose Pixum if you want a personalised photo book with several ways to build it, from MagicBooks’ editable starting point to Photo World’s maps, GPS routes and QR-linked video options. Its main drawback is that the most suitable format and its true cost depend on page count, with extra-page charges increasing across larger books; country-specific ordering rules add another check. If those constraints fit your project, Pixum is a flexible keepsake maker, but buyers should select the format and binding before settling on a budget.
