Overview

MootUp is a platform for hosting virtual and hybrid events in customizable 3D spaces, accessible from a browser without a VR headset. It is best suited to organizers who need a branded venue, exhibitor areas, or attendee networking rather than just a video call. The trade-off is scale: the free Basic plan allows only five participants per meeting, while larger events require custom-priced Business plans.

Key features

Attendees join from a shared browser link with no download or installation, which avoids an app requirement for guests. They can appear as customizable 3D, video, or hologram avatars and interact through voice and video calls, text chat, private messages, gestures, and animations. These options suit events where informal encounters and networking matter; they are more elaborate than most routine team meetings need.

Organizers can configure venues, breakout rooms, sponsor booths, and custom 3D environments. That makes MootUp a stronger fit for exhibitions, conferences, and hybrid events with distinct areas than for a simple presentation. Live and prerecorded video are supported, with YouTube Live, Adobe Connect, and Zoom named as streaming integrations; other named integrations include Slack, BlueJeans, Intrado, Splash, and Hopin.

Trophio tracks visits, content views, popular event elements, and interactions, and lets organizers export metrics. This can help assess which areas or content drew attention after an event. MootUp also supports virtual expo booths and describes its networking features as advanced.

Video capacity depends on the format: many-to-many calls support up to 50 people on video or 250 on audio, while webinar-style one-to-many video supports thousands. Those distinctions matter when planning a large event: the webinar capacity does not mean thousands can join an interactive video call.

Pricing

MootUp uses a freemium model, with a free plan and a 30-day trial. Basic costs 0.00 USD per free and allows up to five participants per meeting, with a 40-minute meeting limit, unlimited meetings, six environment templates, and SSL encryption. It is suitable for small, short meetings or trying the format, but the participant and time caps make it a poor fit for a larger live event.

Business has custom pricing, with plans for 50–10,000 participants. It includes unlimited rooms, 5GB of cloud storage, SSO, and hybrid cloud security, making it the relevant tier for organizers who need larger capacity and more room structure. Business also includes hybrid cloud security, whereas Basic specifies SSL encryption.

Plans include unlimited email and chat support and a set number of onboarding support hours; live event technical support is available separately. Organizers should account for that separate support option when an event depends on live technical assistance.

Platforms

MootUp supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web, and Windows. Browser access through a shared link means attendees do not need to install an app to join.

Who it's for

MootUp is aimed at business, marketing, education, event-planning, exhibitor, sponsor, and attendee use. It makes most sense for organizers who want participants to move among virtual spaces, meet one another, and engage with sponsor areas or event content. A team seeking only a standard video meeting may not benefit from the customizable 3D environment.

Pros and cons

Pros: Browser-link access and no headset requirement reduce joining friction across device types.
Pros: Custom venues, booths, breakout rooms, and multiple avatar and interaction options support events built around networking and exploration.
Pros: Trophio tracks visits, content views, popular elements, and interactions, with exportable metrics.
Cons: Basic is limited to five participants and 40 minutes per meeting, so it cannot serve as a free large-event tier.
Cons: Many-to-many video calls cap at 50 people; the much higher thousands capacity applies to webinar-style one-to-many video.
Cons: Business pricing is custom, so organizers must request a quote to assess cost.

Alternatives

Virtual Event Platforms is a useful starting point for comparing event-focused options. Choose Webex App instead for free meetings of up to 100 attendees with a 40-minute limit, rather than MootUp's five-person Basic meetings. EventX offers a free plan with unlimited events, 30 attendees per event, ticketing, registration forms, check-in, and badge printing, making it a better match when those event-management tools matter more than MootUp's 3D spaces. Shindig is another free event option, with a 100-participant event cap and a 40-minute maximum event length.

Zoom Scheduler is the more relevant choice for personal booking pages and calendar connections. SpatialChat may suit a smaller group seeking a free browser-based meeting space: its free plan allows 12 participants, two hours of meetings daily, and four customized rooms. EventsX allows up to 100 registrations per event and unlimited events on its free plan, while Micepad offers a free tier for up to 50 attendees with check-in, seating charts, and basic reports. Accelevents is an alternative for organizers choosing among event plans with stated event and registrant capacities.

Verdict

Choose MootUp for virtual or hybrid events where customized 3D spaces, sponsor booths, and attendee networking are central to the experience. Its browser access, interaction options, and event analytics support more than a stream-and-chat format. Look elsewhere if you need a generous free meeting limit or a known price before committing: Basic stops at five participants, and Business requires custom pricing.
