Overview

Describe a style, mood or theme and Udio generates two songs per prompt, with clip lengths of 32 seconds or 2 minutes 10 seconds. The longer option is also the maximum track length, so Udio works better for sketching compact ideas than building longer compositions in one generation.

The Create page provides sliders and fields for experimenting, refining tracks and generating variations. Search, filters, favorites, playlists and a trash bin make the library practical to manage, and the player can share songs. Together, these features support an iterative idea-making workflow rather than a one-shot generator.

Key features

Udio can generate vocals and accept audio uploads. Paid subscribers can extend, inpaint, remix, stylize or edit uploaded audio in a waveform-centric Session editor, adding meaningful ways to reshape source material. Uploaders must own the rights to their audio; commercial or copyrighted tracks are not allowed.

Downloads of audio, video and stems are disabled, and stem export is not supported. That is a substantial limitation for anyone who needs to take a finished track into another tool or keep exportable files. Udio is more compelling for idea development and in-service sharing than for a production workflow that depends on exported assets.

The iPhone app supports track extension, but not audio upload, remixing, inpainting, styling or searching songs by title. Choose the web version for those tasks; the app is a narrower companion rather than a substitute for the full workflow. Udio has no Android app.

Pricing

The Free plan is free and includes 10 daily credits, 100 monthly credits and up to three 130-second songs per day. That makes it a reasonable way to explore short generations, but the daily song cap limits sustained experimentation.

Standard costs 10.00 USD per month, billed monthly, and includes up to 2,400 credits per month. It suits creators who want a larger generation allowance and access to paid audio tools without the higher Pro price. The seven-day trial is for one free Standard subscription trial and does not raise credit limits; it allows no more than three two-minute songs per day. Cancel before the trial ends or change it to monthly, since an uncanceled trial is charged at the annual price.

Pro costs 30.00 USD per month, billed monthly, and includes up to 6,000 credits per month and up to 10 simultaneous songs. It is the better fit for heavier use or parallel generation, though disabled downloads remain a constraint regardless of plan.

Platforms

Udio is available on the web and iPhone. The iOS feature gaps make the web the stronger choice for upload-based editing and library searches; Android users cannot use an official app. Account signup supports Google, Discord, X, Apple or email. Support is available through the messenger in the lower-right corner of the service.

Who it's for

Udio suits creators who want to generate vocal song ideas, iterate on them with adjustable controls and organize or share results in a library. Paid users who have rights-cleared source audio can also use its editing tools to reshape material. It is a poor match for people who need longer single-generation tracks, stem exports, downloadable files or the same editing features on iPhone.

Pros and cons

Pros: Two results per prompt and adjustable generation tools give creators room to compare and refine short ideas.
Pros: Paid audio editing includes extension, inpainting, remixing, stylizing and waveform-based editing.
Pros: Search, filters, playlists, favorites and a recovery bin help keep a working library organized.
Cons: Disabled audio, video and stem downloads prevent exporting finished work.
Cons: The 2-minute-10-second maximum track length is limiting for longer compositions.
Cons: The iPhone app lacks upload-based editing and title search, and there is no Android app.

Alternatives

For another freemium option, Treblo may suit creators who prioritize downloads: its free plan includes unlimited songs, stem separation and OGG, MP3, WAV and FLAC downloads. Choose Suno instead if its free plan's 50 daily credits and eight minutes of audio upload better match your needs, or if you want its listed Android and iOS platforms.

Eleven Music is an alternative for web users whose priority is a free tier with 10,000 monthly credits and personal-use terms. CAVN AI is worth considering if you need Android, iOS, web and API access; its free plan includes 10 daily renewing credits, about four songs and two concurrent generations, but no commercial use.

MusicWave.ai may be a fit if you want a web-based free option with 10 signup credits and streaming-only personal use. Ailume is another freemium web alternative with free credits for personal, non-commercial use and possible attribution requirements. For a free option with unlimited generation and local processing by default, consider Majik's Music Studio. SongUp AI is another freemium alternative.

Verdict

Choose Udio if you want vocal song generation, useful iteration controls and paid tools for reshaping rights-cleared audio, and can accept short tracks and an in-service workflow. Look elsewhere if exporting audio or stems is essential, or if you need consistent editing features on mobile.
