Overview

Courses take the form of Paths made up of ordered Steps, arranged with a drag-and-drop designer. This gives instructors a clear sequence for learners while allowing each Step to hold different kinds of activity. Pathwright also brings cohort scheduling, live sessions, community spaces, assignment workflows, and progress tracking into the same platform.

The design is a good fit for programs that need to guide learners through a sequence and support them along the way, rather than simply publish standalone course materials. Cohorts can have their own teachers, schedules, discussions, prices, and custom Steps, so separate groups can follow a course on different terms. That flexibility is useful, but the per-plan staff and cohort allowances can constrain growing teams.

Key features

Structured, interactive course design

Pathwright says it offers more than 30 interactive Blocks, including video, quizzes, reflections, checklists, flashcards, project uploads, and surveys. The range makes it possible to mix instruction, practice, and learner responses inside a sequenced course. That is more useful for educators designing guided learning than for anyone seeking only a place to host video.

Cohorts and mentoring

Each Cohort can have its own teachers, schedule, discussions, pricing, and custom Steps. This supports repeated or differentiated runs of a course without treating every learner as part of one identical group. The Mentor feature is intended to provide learners with personal guidance; cohort scheduling, live sessions, and community spaces add further support for group-based programs.

Payments and safeguards

Pathwright connects directly to Stripe for learner payments and says it takes no fee from course sales. Its integrations and connection guides also cover Zapier, Intercom, SSO, and its GraphQL API. Pathwright says accounts use SSL, daily backups are run, learner contact information is not sold or shared with other organizations, and the service complies with PCI/DSS. It maintains GDPR compliance and provides data processing agreements on request. One notable weakness is that overwritten content cannot be versioned, so teams needing to recover earlier content should account for that limitation.

Pathwright says it is working toward full ADA/WCAG compliance. That is a relevant consideration for organizations with accessibility requirements that depend on full conformance.

Pricing

Users can build courses free indefinitely, and a 30-day risk-free trial can be activated on a paid plan. The paid plans all cap membership at 1,000, so the main differences are staff and Cohort capacity. Annual billing lowers each plan's monthly rate, but the stated monthly rates are higher.

Plan	Monthly billing	Annual billing	Limits
Starter	$99/mo	$89/mo	Up to 1,000 members, 1 administrator, 1 Cohort per course
Essentials	$199/mo	$179/mo	Up to 1,000 members, 5 staff, up to 3 Cohorts per course
Complete	$499/mo	$449/mo	Up to 1,000 members, 20 staff, unlimited Cohorts
Enterprise	$1,499/mo	$1,349/mo	Up to 1,000 members, 50 staff, unlimited Cohorts

Starter is the lowest-cost paid option, but one administrator and one Cohort per course make it restrictive for collaborative teams or programs with multiple groups. Essentials raises the allowance to five staff and three Cohorts per course; Pathwright describes it as suited to small to mid-sized organizations or individual teachers looking to grow. Complete is for organizations that need unlimited Cohorts and up to 20 staff, while Enterprise extends the staff cap to 50 and includes priority email support and live demos. Enterprise has custom pricing only if those published plan rates do not fit an organization’s requirements.

The free course-building option lets prospective users build without a time limit, but the 30-day trial is the route to evaluating a paid plan. Because every paid tier remains capped at 1,000 members, larger programs should confirm that ceiling suits their needs before choosing Pathwright.

Platforms

Pathwright supports web, Android, and iOS, and provides an API. That combination suits programs whose learners use phones as well as browsers, and teams that need an API connection.

Who it's for

Pathwright fits educators and organizations building sequenced courses with interactive activities, cohort-specific teaching, and learner support. Essentials is explicitly aimed at small to mid-sized organizations and individual teachers seeking room to grow. It is less compelling for a large operation that needs more than 1,000 members, or for a team that requires version history for edited content.

Pros and cons

Pros: Ordered Steps and a broad set of interactive Blocks support varied, guided courses rather than a simple video library.
Pros: Cohorts can differ in teachers, schedules, discussions, pricing, and Steps, which helps when a program runs in multiple formats.
Pros: Direct Stripe payments with no Pathwright fee from course sales keep learner payments integrated without an additional platform sales fee.
Cons: Staff and Cohort limits vary by plan, and the lower tiers may be too narrow for teams running several groups.
Cons: All paid plans cap membership at 1,000, limiting suitability for larger programs.
Cons: Overwritten content cannot be versioned, which removes a useful recovery option for teams revising courses.
Cons: Full ADA/WCAG compliance remains a stated goal rather than a completed commitment.

Alternatives

Consider UjuziPlus if a free-starting creator plan and marketplace selling are more important than Pathwright’s cohort-specific course structure. Sublime LMS is worth considering for a small test setup: its free sandbox is capped at 50 active learners, two published courses, one instructor, and 100 emails per month.

Academy Launcher is another paid option with a free trial. For a custom solution, NovoEd uses custom pricing and asks prospective customers to request a demo. Build_it offers a free three-week applied programme with 48 lessons and 12 modules, a different choice for someone seeking a defined programme rather than a course platform.

Cohorta has a free plan for one product, 50 learners, and 500 monthly email messages, with a 10% sales commission; it may suit a smaller cohort program willing to accept those caps and fee. Nialtus offers a free tier capped at 10 active learners, five courses, 1 GB of storage, one language, and one administrator. Learnify is an alternative for readers comparing a service that offers Android, iOS, and web access.

Verdict

Choose Pathwright if you need to design structured, interactive courses and run them across cohorts with their own schedules, teachers, and discussions. Its integrated learner payments and mentoring make it a strong fit for guided programs, but check the member, staff, and Cohort caps against your operating model. Look elsewhere if your audience exceeds 1,000 members or preserving overwritten course content is essential.
