Overview

PhotoID turns a camera or gallery image into a digital photo or print-ready sheet for passports, visas, residence permits, ID cards, work permits, student IDs, and related documents. Its templates cover more than 100 countries and 200 document types, giving users a helpful starting point across a wide range of applications. The checks can flag image-quality issues, but cannot ensure an authority will accept a photo; verify the current rules for the specific document before relying on an export.

Key features

Image checks: Before export, the app checks the background, face position, lighting and shadows, sharpness, and overall image quality. This can catch common problems in a source photo, but it does not replace checking the authority's requirements.
Optional background editing: PhotoID can remove or replace a background with white, blue, or gray. That is useful when the original setting is unsuitable, though a changed background still needs to comply with the relevant document rules.
Phone-based input: Use a camera photo or choose one from the gallery; JPEG, PNG, and HEIC are supported. The app requires an internet connection, camera permission, and photo-library permission.
Digital and print exports: High-resolution JPG and PDF layouts can include multiple copies per sheet, and exports have no watermark. The limitation is that the free plan does not allow downloading the finished photo.

Pricing

Free: 0.00 USD per free. Users can process and preview photos, but a subscription is required to download the final result. This makes the free tier useful for seeing how a photo fares in the app, not for completing a document-photo job without paying.

Since downloading is the step that turns a preview into a usable file, budget for a subscription if you intend to use an export.

Platforms

PhotoID runs on Android and iOS. Its phone-first approach suits people who already have a suitable image on a mobile device; it is not a desktop or web option. Saved outputs remain on the user's device, while processing requires internet access.

Who it's for

PhotoID is a practical fit for people preparing passport, visa, residence-permit, ID-card, work-permit, student-ID, and similar photos who value document templates, checks, and print layouts in one mobile app. It is less suitable for anyone who needs a free downloadable result, cannot send photos to external processors, or requires a guarantee of acceptance.

Photos are sent to OpenAI for analysis and retained there for up to 30 days under the stated policy. Optional background removal uses Replicate's cjwbw/rembg API, where data is automatically removed after approximately one hour by default. PhotoID says it does not store photo copies on its servers; saved outputs stay on the user's device. Its privacy policy says photos are transmitted to OpenAI over encrypted connections and that personal identification data is not collected or stored. Email support is available at contact+support@neidbau.com, with typical replies within 24–48 hours on business days.

Pros and cons

Pro: Templates span more than 100 countries and 200 document types, so the app can serve a broad range of document-photo needs.
Pro: Checks cover several common image-quality issues, and optional background editing plus multi-copy print layouts provide useful preparation tools.
Pro: High-resolution JPG or PDF exports have no watermark.
Con: Free users can only process and preview; downloading requires a subscription.
Con: Photos go to OpenAI for analysis and may remain there for up to 30 days, a meaningful trade-off for privacy-conscious users.
Con: Image checks do not guarantee acceptance, so users must confirm current authority requirements themselves.

Alternatives

Cutout.Pro is worth considering for readers who want a broader platform choice, including web and desktop systems as well as mobile. Its subscription includes 80 credits/month for 5.00 USD per month, billed monthly.
Passport Room may suit a reader who wants a no-account free option with a stated daily allowance: its free plan exports three finished photos per day without a watermark. It also runs on web as well as Android and iOS.
ID Photo Maker is an iOS-only alternative whose free tier includes shooting, cropping, and previewing; its 19.99 USD per year Full version is an auto-renewing yearly subscription.
MakePassportPhoto offers a web-based DIY route for someone willing to edit manually: its free option includes one paper-size download but no compliance check or background correction, and is ad-supported.
PhotoID Studio is a desktop alternative for Windows and macOS users; its free trial lasts 30 days, covers 100 photos, includes all features, and requires no credit card.
Smartphone iD is an option for readers seeking human verification alongside AI verification; its digital photo with full verification costs 8.50 USD per once, with the exact price varying by document.

IDPhoto4You is a free web option for passport, visa, and ID photos, with multiple print sizes and standards for 73 countries.

Verdict

Choose PhotoID if you want a mobile workflow with wide document-template coverage, image checks, and print-sheet output. Its main drawback is the paywall on final downloads, compounded by external photo processing and the need to verify authority rules independently. Look elsewhere if free finished exports, minimal data sharing, or guaranteed acceptance is essential.
