Overview

Plumati brings chapter creation, interactive elements and distribution formats into one workflow. Authors can start with existing documents, build interactive material, and sync books, chapters and assets across devices. The breadth is useful for publishing across reading and learning environments, but the output format matters: PDF and Word exports strip out interactive content.

Key features

Authoring and assessment

Chapters can combine HTML, CSS and JavaScript widgets, mini-games and AI assistance. Quiz blocks handle multiple choice, true/false, multi-select, ranking and short-answer questions, with instant scoring. That range makes Plumati a stronger fit for instructional books and self-guided learning than a tool limited to page layout. Widget Studio’s live preview, asset uploads and rollback to earlier versions give authors a way to refine custom widgets without losing prior iterations.

Imports cover EPUB, KEPUB, KPUB2, FB2, DOCX, Markdown, HTML and TXT, which should help when adapting existing manuscripts or course materials. Cloud saving syncs books, chapters and uploaded assets across devices. Exports can be password protected. Security measures include encryption in transit and at rest, authentication, row-level database policies, hashed passwords and restricted administrative access. AI prompts and relevant content go to an AI model provider; Plumati says it does not use that content to train models or sell it.

Exports and platforms

Plumati exports EPUB, PDF, responsive web apps, desktop builds, mobile builds and SCORM packages. Its SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 and xAPI exports are described as compatible with Moodle, Canvas and Blackboard, making the product relevant to organizations distributing courseware through learning platforms. Desktop exports use Electron for Windows, macOS and Linux; mobile packages use Capacitor or Cordova for iOS and Android.

The chief constraint is format-dependent interactivity: PDF and Word exports remove interactive content. Choose EPUB, web, app or learning-platform outputs when quizzes and widgets are central; Plumati is less compelling if a static PDF or Word file is the required deliverable.

Pricing

The Free plan is free and includes 20k AI tokens/month, 200 MB storage, one book, one author seat, EPUB and Web exports, and community support. It has no free trial. Its three interactive blocks and three AI assistant replies in the free download make it a narrow evaluation option, not a generous production tier.

Starter costs 14.99 USD per month, with a 1 week free trial and billing after 7 days. It raises the allowance to 200k AI tokens/month, 2.0 GB storage and five books, while keeping one author seat. EPUB, PDF and Web exports, the last 10 versions and email support make it suitable for a solo author with modest output, but it does not include the full export set.

Author Pro costs 31.99 USD per month, with a 1 week free trial and billing after 7 days. It includes 2M AI tokens/month, 50 GB storage, unlimited books, one author seat, all exports including SCORM, full version history, custom branding and priority support. This is the most direct choice for a solo creator whose books need learning-platform or app delivery.

Organization costs 101.99 USD per month, with a 1 week free trial and billing after 7 days. Its 20M AI tokens/month, 1.0 TB storage and five included seats accompany unlimited books, a shared team library, roles and permissions, SSO, LMS/SCORM, white-label export and analytics, and dedicated support and onboarding. Extra seats cost $15/mo. It suits teams that need shared production and administrative controls; for an individual, those capacities and collaboration features may be unnecessary.

Platforms

Plumati supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows. Its exported desktop and mobile builds extend distribution beyond the authoring environment, while cloud saving keeps books, chapters and assets in sync across devices.

Who it's for

Choose Plumati for interactive ebooks, particularly educational and training material that benefits from scored quizzes, custom widgets or SCORM and xAPI delivery. Solo authors can start on Starter and move to Author Pro when they need the wider export set. Teams that need seats, shared libraries, permissions or SSO have a distinct Organization tier. It is a weaker fit when the deliverable must preserve interaction in PDF or Word.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad import and export support lets authors repurpose common manuscript formats and publish to ebook, web, desktop, mobile and LMS destinations.
Pros: Quiz formats with instant scoring, custom widgets and mini-games support interactive instructional content rather than static reading alone.
Pros: Organization adds five seats, team library, roles, SSO and white-label analytics for coordinated publishing.
Cons: PDF and Word exports remove interactive material, limiting those formats to static versions of a project.
Cons: Free is constrained to one book, one seat and 200 MB storage, while the free download includes only three interactive blocks and three AI replies.
Cons: Starter remains a one-seat plan and does not include all exports; SCORM and full version history begin at Author Pro.

Alternatives

AnyFlip is worth considering for readers prioritizing its free tier’s 30,000 daily opens, five uploads per day and 100G storage, though that tier carries a watermark. Bookalope is an alternative for a conversion-oriented workflow, with per-conversion billing and a free test version. FlowPaper may suit publishers who value a free option with cloud hosting and no traffic or file-size limits, accepting its 90-day publishing term and branding.

ePubEditor is another freemium option for readers considering an ebook editor with a free tier. Book Creator may fit classroom-style work where a free Starter library allows up to 40 books and unlimited students. Bloom offers a free basic tier aimed at small projects without outside support. Koberger has a free account for formatting, design, layout and preview, but requires Pro to export finished files. Jutoh is an alternative ebook creation tool.

Verdict

Plumati is the stronger choice for authors and educators who need interactive books with multiple publishing routes, especially SCORM or mobile delivery. Its quiz and widget capabilities give it a clear purpose beyond ebook formatting. Look elsewhere if the essential deliverable is an interactive PDF or Word document, or if the solo-author plans do not provide enough publishing capacity.
