Overview

The platform combines campaign automation, training content, behavioral reporting, and risk scoring. Teams can assess vulnerability at several organizational levels, then use the results to guide follow-up. Its scope reaches beyond phishing, but using it well requires internet access, domain allowlisting, and a check that the reporting button works with the organization’s email clients.

Key features

Campaigns and customization

Simulation Tools covers phishing, ransomware, QR code, smishing, and USB drop attacks, with multichannel campaigns and automation. Editable content and the ability to build scenarios from existing material or from scratch give teams room to tailor exercises to their audience. That flexibility is valuable for organizations with varied users, though buyers should confirm which campaign capabilities and license limits are included in their contract.

Reporting and response

Reports measure organizational vulnerability and changes in user behavior. Risk scoring can be examined for individual users, groups, functional areas, hierarchical levels, and the organization as a whole, making it useful for locating where additional attention may be needed. The Phishing Report Button lets users flag suspicious email for incident-response review and records real-time metrics on reports of SMARTFENSE simulations. Its support covers Gmail without minimum requirements and a defined set of Outlook clients: Outlook on the web, new Outlook for Windows, Outlook LTSC 2024 and 2021, and Outlook for iOS and Android. Organizations relying on unlisted clients such as Outlook for macOS should not assume technical support for the button.

Integrations and API

Base-platform integrations include Microsoft Entra ID, Google, Auth0, LDAP, and SAML 2.0. Moodle, Slack, Microsoft Teams, SAP SuccessFactors, Vanta, and BeyGoo belong to a separately contracted integrations component, so teams that depend on those connections should account for that separate contract. A documented REST API uses OAuth 2.0 and JSON to expose campaign results, risk scoring, and user management; that is a useful route for organizations connecting SMARTFENSE to their own workflows.

Pricing

SMARTFENSE Simulation Tools uses paid, custom pricing. No public seat limits, quotas, trial length, or renewal terms are stated, so procurement teams should request a quote that spells out license scope and whether the separately contracted integrations component is needed. With no self-serve price or free tier to compare, it is less suited to small teams that need to budget or evaluate a tool without a sales conversation.

Platforms

SMARTFENSE is a SaaS service requiring internet access. Platform use supports Windows, Mac OS, and GNU/Linux; the directory also lists Android, iOS, API, and web platforms. The stated minimum internet bandwidth is 1 MB, and SMARTFENSE requires its email and browsing domains to be allowlisted for proper operation. That setup is manageable for organizations with IT support, but it adds deployment work for teams without control over email and network policies.

Who it's for

The product is best suited to organizations seeking multilingual-market-relevant awareness content and a broad range of simulated attacks. SMARTFENSE says its content is designed for Latin America, Spain, Portugal, and Italy, and that more than 1,000 organizations use the platform across more than 25 countries. The company was founded in 2016 in Córdoba, Argentina, and has an office in León, Spain. It states that it received a CCN qualification for handling sensitive information under Spain’s National Security Scheme and participates in the Cloud Security Alliance program. These credentials may matter to buyers assessing its regional fit and security posture, but organizations should still assess their own compliance requirements.

Pros and cons

Pros

Broad simulation coverage: Five attack formats and multichannel automation offer more variety than a phishing-only campaign program.
Useful behavioral measurement: Risk scoring across users and organizational groupings helps teams target follow-up rather than rely only on campaign completion.
Extensible workflows: The documented API covers campaign results, risk scoring, and user management.

Cons

Opaque purchasing: Custom pricing and unstated license limits make cost and scale harder to assess before contacting sales.
Some integrations cost separately: Teams needing Moodle, Slack, Teams, SAP SuccessFactors, Vanta, or BeyGoo must consider a separate integrations component.
Operational prerequisites: Internet access and domain allowlisting are required, and the reporting button does not cover every email client.

Alternatives

For a broader shortlist, see Phishing Simulation Software. Choose CanIPhish if a freemium option is the priority: it has a free plan for up to 10 employees and no free trial. Hoxhunt is another paid option with custom quotes based on employee count and required capabilities. Trellix Data Loss Prevention is the better direction for enterprise data-loss prevention across endpoints, email, web, networks, and data storage, with on-premises or SaaS management. Infosec IQ offers paid plans including an Enterprise tier with LMS integration and SCORM support, making it worth comparing for organizations focused on those training-system connections. Breach Secure Now is a paid web-based alternative with a free trial; CyberHoot offers a free plan and trial, with its paid Autopilot plan at 125.00 USD per month. Proofpoint Email DLP and Encryption is a paid alternative for buyers considering email data loss prevention and encryption. Kaspersky Research Sandbox is another paid option, with cloud or on-premise deployment and support for air-gapped environments.

Verdict

SMARTFENSE Simulation Tools is a strong fit for security teams that want configurable, automated simulations across several attack types, paired with organizational risk scoring and response reporting. Its main advantage is that measurement and campaign breadth sit in the same SaaS platform. Look elsewhere if transparent pricing, a free entry point, minimal setup, or guaranteed support for an unlisted email client is essential.
