Overview

Songzap combines audio capture, song-section arrangement, mixing, and export in one pre-production workflow. Tracking records vocals and instruments through a phone’s microphone, and supports importing and bouncing audio. The arrangement editor and mixer make it possible to turn raw takes into organized sketches; users can export a mixed audio file, with the export guide also covering recordings, MIDI, lyrics, notes, and arrangement data.

The distinction between the plans is substantial: Free is a compact four-track linear recorder, while Premium adds loop-based work, more accompaniment tools, cloud sync, and DAW-oriented exports. Songzap makes more sense as a place to develop ideas than as a substitute for a full studio environment.

Key features

Recording and arranging

The free plan supports four-track linear audio recording, importing and bouncing tracks, arrangement editing, and a mixer with pan and reverb. That is a useful foundation for capturing and organizing a demo without a subscription, but five concurrently editable songs can be restrictive for writers who keep several projects active.

Accompaniment and loops

Autozap analyzes recordings and creates accompaniment such as drums, bass, and keys. Premium also adds AI bass and pad/keys composers. These tools can help a writer hear an idea with more arrangement around it before involving other musicians; they are less valuable if accompaniment is already handled in a separate production setup.

Premium’s four-track loop recorder supports layered phrases, imported loops, and Pre-Roll and Live modes. Songzap V3 also uses real-time AI to isolate a new performance from playback bleed during headphone-free recording. Those are targeted advantages for layering or recording without headphones, rather than reasons for every songwriter to upgrade.

Mixing, export, and learning

Premium adds compression and EQ to the mixer, as well as MIDI export and full-resolution archives intended for further work in a DAW or studio. Cloud backup and sync make songs accessible across devices. In-app tutorials and an assistant, along with the online guide, videos, course, and teachers’ resources, give new users several ways to learn the workflow.

Pricing

Songzap (Free): free. It includes four-track linear recording, audio import and bounce, arrangement editing, AI Beats Designer, and a mixer with pan and reverb. The five-song concurrent editing limit is the main constraint. This tier suits writers who want to capture and organize a small number of ideas before paying.

Songzap Premium: 20.00 USD per year, billed per year. It raises the concurrent editing limit to 100 songs and adds four-track loop recording, Autozap, AI bass and pad/keys composers, compression and EQ, MIDI export, cloud backup and sync, and headphone-free recording. The annual plan is the relevant choice for writers who need those specific capabilities; it is unnecessary overhead for basic four-track sketches.

A 14-day trial is offered. The stated prices do not give a separate renewal term beyond annual billing.

Platforms

Songzap is available on iOS and macOS, but it is described as designed for iPhone and not verified for macOS. iPhone users have the clearest platform fit; Mac users should not assume compatibility for a core workflow without confirming it first. The maker, RT Sixty Limited, operating as RT60, is based in London and was founded in 2008.

Who it's for

Songzap suits songwriters, instrumentalists, singers, and MCs who want to record ideas, build arrangements, and hear AI-generated accompaniment before moving material into a DAW. Its lyric and chord tools, demo recording, and collaboration support add to that songwriting focus. It is a weaker choice for anyone who needs confirmed Mac compatibility or plans to keep more than five songs active without paying for Premium.

Pros and cons

Pros: Free includes four-track recording, import and bounce, arrangement editing, and basic mixing, so a songwriter can build a structured demo without upgrading.
Pros: Premium combines AI accompaniment, loop recording, and headphone-free recording, addressing several distinct pre-production needs in one app.
Pros: MIDI export, full-resolution archives, and cloud sync support continued work across devices and transfer into a DAW or studio.
Cons: Free concurrent editing stops at five songs, which can interrupt a writer who keeps a broad project slate active.
Cons: macOS support is unverified, so the platform claim is not enough for Mac-dependent users to rely on it.
Cons: The most distinctive accompaniment and recording features are confined to the annual Premium plan.

Alternatives

For a different songwriting workflow, browse Songwriting tools. Choose Song Cage instead if its free web app for one song, chord palette, voicings, modulation, and word tools better match the way you write. Songwriter's Pad offers a free tier capped at 750 AI word tokens and three songs, with unlimited AI lyric generation on a Premium subscription at custom pricing.

Udio is a better fit for readers seeking generated songs: its free plan includes 10 daily and 100 monthly credits, with up to three 130-second songs per day; Standard costs 10.00 USD per month. Suno is another option for AI song generation, with a free plan offering 50 credits per day and an 8-minute audio upload limit; Pro is 8.00 USD per month.

Songkeeper Studio may suit writers who want a mobile song library: Basic is free for five songs, with two drafts and two recordings per song, while Pro is 0.99 USD per month. Zoundroom is an alternative for project sharing, with a free plan for two active projects and sharing with up to two artists; Pro is 4.99 EUR per month.

SundayMusic offers a free browser account and a 2.99 GBP one-off Apple app. SONGTAKE is another iOS and macOS option, with Studio Access at 7.49 USD per month.

Verdict

Choose Songzap if you want an iPhone-centered songwriting workspace that can turn recorded ideas into arranged demos and hand assets off to a DAW. Its free plan is a credible starting point, and Premium is justified for writers who need Autozap, loops, headphone-free recording, or cloud sync. Look elsewhere if verified Mac support or a generous free project limit matters more.
