Overview

Testportal is an assessment platform for quizzes, tests, exams, and certifications. It is a strong fit for educators and organizations that need flexible assessment formats and detailed result tracking. Its broad delivery and scoring options are useful, but response quotas and the 1,000-person simultaneous-use ceiling matter for recurring or large-scale programs.

Key features

Question creation covers three routes: build from scratch, import from PDF or Word, or generate with AI. Single- and multiple-choice and self-grading short answers suit automated checks; descriptive questions allow richer answers but call for manual scoring. Scoring can include partial or negative points, bonuses, pass marks, grade ranges, and multidimensional criteria, which gives assessment designers meaningful control over evaluation.

Reporting ranges from total and per-question scores to pass rates, histograms, grade distributions, average answer times, answer popularity, and cross-test results. Live monitoring and progress statistics help supervisors follow an active assessment, while certificates support certification workflows. Business and paid education plans export reports as PDF, XLSX, and CSV; Free EDU is limited to PDF exports.

Assessments can be distributed by public link, email verification, group password, individual access code, printable sheet, website iframe, Microsoft Teams, or API. The API can authorize respondents, start tests, and return results through another system. Teams adds Azure Active Directory authorization and live webcam monitoring. Respondents need no Testportal account and can resume after interruptions, reducing access friction. The stated capacity is up to 1,000 simultaneous respondents; larger groups should contact the company.

Testportal says it is GDPR ready and offers a customized data processing agreement. Its Microsoft Azure-based infrastructure includes anti-DDoS measures, auto-scaling, redundancy, SSL, and encryption. Human support is offered by email, with the company stating it uses no chatbots.

Pricing

The free entry point is Free EDU at 0.00 USD per free, billed free forever. It includes 100 results storage, advanced configuration and reporting, additional user accounts and collaboration, and customization. That makes it a substantial starting point for education, but the 100-result storage cap and PDF-only report exports limit its suitability for ongoing programs.

Standard costs 35.00 USD per month and includes 30 results/month, AI question creation and document import, analytics and reporting, certificates, and API integration. It suits smaller recurring assessments, but the quota is restrictive if many respondents take tests. PRO costs 79.00 USD per month for 300 results/month with the same listed core features; MAX costs 129.00 USD per month for 3,000 results/month. These tiers scale the monthly allowance rather than changing the stated feature set, so estimate volume before choosing.

EDU costs 39.00 USD per year and provides unlimited results storage, advanced test configuration and reporting, additional accounts and collaboration, and customization. It is the low-cost fit for education users who need those capabilities, though the annual term and education focus distinguish it from the monthly Standard plan. MAX Customized has custom pricing, starting at $159 / month, with unlimited results/month and added users and collaboration alongside the core assessment features. EDU School and EDU University use custom pricing; School is for district deployments, while University includes the advanced education features without the district-only condition. A 14-day trial provides a temporary paid-plan entry point.

Platforms

Testportal runs on the web, Android, and iOS, and offers an extension. Teams and API integrations extend delivery into organizational workflows, while printable test sheets provide an offline distribution option.

Who it's for

The range of plans and assessment controls suits teachers, schools, and universities as well as HR, training, certification, sales, customer service, and language-school teams. It is particularly apt where administrators need controlled respondent access, monitoring, and reporting. It is less compelling for very high-volume use unless an unlimited-results plan fits the budget, and groups above 1,000 simultaneous respondents need to discuss capacity with the provider.

Pros and cons

Pros: Multiple question-creation routes and scoring modes support both automated checks and more nuanced evaluations.
Pros: Respondents can start without accounts and resume interrupted assessments, making access simpler for distributed cohorts.
Pros: Broad publishing choices, Teams support, and an API make it adaptable to different assessment workflows.
Cons: Standard, PRO, and MAX cap monthly results at 30, 300, and 3,000 respectively, so volume can force an upgrade.
Cons: Free EDU stores only 100 results and exports reports only as PDF.
Cons: The stated simultaneous respondent limit is 1,000, which may not cover larger events without a separate capacity discussion.

Alternatives

TAO is worth considering for teams seeking a free forever plan with one author seat, 3,000 AI credits per month, and 50 learner test attempts per month, or those needing self-hosted and desktop platform options.

FlexiQuiz may suit users who want a free plan with unlimited quizzes but can work within 20 responses per month, 20 responses per quiz, and 10 questions per quiz.

TriviaMaker is a free alternative for limited Grid, Trivia, and List styles, with caps on teams and participants.

ProProfs Quiz Maker offers a free plan for small quizzes, limited to 12 questions and 90-day report history.

SpeedExam is an option for exam-focused users whose free tier's 25 monthly attempts, 2,000 questions, and 100 MB storage are sufficient.

ClassMarker is another assessment alternative to compare.

Classtime suits classroom sessions needing up to 40 students simultaneously, unlimited questions and sessions, and a large free question bank.

Interact is aimed at quiz-led lead capture, with a free tier capped at 100 completions per month, two quizzes, and one user, and no integrations.

Verdict

Choose Testportal if you need varied assessment formats, controlled distribution, active monitoring, and detailed reporting across education or organizational training. Its main advantage is the combination of flexible scoring and delivery, including account-free respondent access and Teams/API routes. Look elsewhere if your expected volume does not fit the result quotas or if more than 1,000 simultaneous respondents is essential.
