Using an AI music generator does not automatically give you copyright in the finished track or permission to use every element in it. Treat three questions separately: what human-authored material you can protect, what the generator’s license lets you do, and whether your inputs or distribution could violate someone else’s rights or platform rules.

What Copyright Protects In AI-Generated Music

For the United States, the Copyright Office says a work generated entirely by AI is not copyrightable, and prompts alone do not make the prompter its author. In a mixed work, human-authored parts may be protected, while the AI-generated material is not protected simply because a person selected or prompted it. That distinction matters if you plan to register a song or rely on copyright to stop others from copying it. The Copyright Office says applicants registering a work with more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material must disclose that material and describe the human author’s contribution. Permission To Use A Track Is A Separate Question

A service may grant a license for uses such as publishing or monetizing a track even where copyright protection for the AI-generated material is uncertain. That license is a contract with the service; it does not, by itself, establish that every input was authorized or that a third party has no claim. Check the terms that apply to your account and the specific track before release.

Service What The Supplied Terms Establish What To Check Before Release
Suno The supplied information says songs created as a paid subscriber are yours to use, including in videos or an album; the Free Plan does not include commercial rights. Confirm your plan and the terms that apply to the track, especially if it was created under a different plan.
Eleven Music The supplied information says tracks are cleared for broad commercial use, while commercial rights vary by subscription tier; it also identifies exclusions for film, TV, and studio games. Check the tier-specific terms and whether your intended medium is covered.
Musicful The supplied information says a downloaded track receives a non-exclusive, perpetual license, while Musicful retains ownership; commercial use is limited to Standard/Pro plans. Confirm the plan, scope of the license, and any requirements for your use.
Tunee The supplied information says free creations are for personal projects with attribution, while its site describes a full commercial license for generated songs and videos. Check the terms for your plan and the attribution requirement for free use.
Loudly The supplied information says commercial licensing is included, but paid licensing rights depend on plan terms. Check the specific plan license and permitted distribution.

Protect Voices, Covers, And Samples

Do not treat a generated sound-alike, cover, or sample-based track as cleared merely because an AI service produced it. Get consent before using a recognizable person’s voice or identity, and use only recordings, lyrics, melodies, and other source material you made or have permission to use. These are practical risk controls, not a guarantee that a release is lawful.

Platform terms are a separate check. Spotify says vocal impersonation is allowed only when the impersonated artist has authorized it, and it supports AI disclosures in credits. Spotify AI protections announced September 25, 2025 The supplied information does not establish that any generator listed here clears a voice, cover, or sample for you; check the service’s current terms and obtain any needed consent yourself.

Use A Rights-Conscious Creation Workflow

  1. Start with material you control. Write original lyrics and describe musical qualities in general terms. For example: “Create an original mid-tempo instrumental with a restrained synth pulse, warm bass, and a gradual build; do not imitate a named performer or use supplied recordings.” This is a prompt example, not a guarantee about the output.
  2. Check the service terms before generating. Find the rules for commercial use, attribution, downloads, and any limits tied to your plan. If the terms do not answer your intended use, ask the provider or choose a different workflow.
  3. Keep a record of your contribution. Save your lyrics, edits, arrangement decisions, generation date, plan, and the applicable license. This can help document what you authored and which terms you relied on; it does not make AI-generated material copyrightable.
  4. Review the output before publishing. Listen for recognizable voices or melodies and remove or replace anything that raises a permission concern. Do not assume that changing a prompt or editing a track resolves a rights issue.
  5. Check the destination platform’s rules. YouTube requires disclosure for realistic altered or synthetic content that could be mistaken for a real person’s performance. Its inauthentic-content policy addresses mass-produced, repetitive, or template-based uploads rather than AI use by itself. YouTube policy clarification reported July 20, 2026

What The Available Information Does Not Settle

These facts do not resolve copyright or licensing outcomes in every country, determine whether a particular track infringes, or guarantee that a platform will accept a release. They also do not establish the current detailed terms for every plan or every intended use. Check the relevant service and distribution platform terms at the time you create and publish, and seek qualified legal advice for a specific dispute or high-stakes release.
