How Specifiction is paid for

Advertising disclosure

Specifiction is free to read. It is paid for by makers who buy places on it, by ads on its articles, and by referral links. This page says which is which.

Places makers buy

A maker can pay to be listed (a paid listing carries a Visit button to the maker’s site), to hold a numbered place on a list, to be shown beside a competitor on that competitor’s pages, or to sponsor a whole list. A bought place sits where it was bought. Specifiction does not mark every bought place on the page itself; this page and the advertise page describe them all.

Referral links

Some ways out to a maker’s site are referral links: if you buy, Specifiction may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra.

Ads and sponsored articles

Spec Notes articles carry ads. A maker can sponsor an article or a place in an article; the price of a place in an article is the price of the same place in the directory.

What money does not buy

A maker cannot change a figure it does not publish. Facts on a page come from the maker’s own pages, with the date they were read; a correction is checked against those pages before it changes anything.
