A paid plan or platform license can give you permission to use an AI-generated track commercially, but that does not automatically mean you own copyright in the whole recording. In the United States, the Copyright Office says music generated entirely by AI is not copyrightable; prompts alone do not make you its author. Human-authored lyrics, melodies, performances, or other contributions may be protected, while only the human-authored parts of a mixed work can qualify.

What Rights Do You Need For An AI-Generated Track?

Separate three questions before you release music: what copyright you may have, what the generator’s terms let you do, and whether the track uses material or a voice you have permission to use. A commercial-use license answers the second question; it does not settle the first or grant permission to imitate someone else.

If you register a work with the U.S. Copyright Office and it contains more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material, you must disclose that material and describe your human contribution. See the U.S. Copyright Office’s AI report and guidance. Rules may differ outside the United States.

How To Make A Track Easier To Clear And Document

  1. Decide where the track will appear. List intended uses such as a monetized video, an ad, a client project, or a streaming release. License scope can depend on the plan and use, so check the vendor’s current terms for each use.
  2. Keep the human-created parts identifiable. For example, write and save your own lyrics, record an original melody or performance, and make deliberate arrangement edits. A prompt such as “make an upbeat electronic track” is not, by itself, authorship under the U.S. Copyright Office’s stated position.
  3. Use only voices and source material you have permission to use. If a workflow involves a recognizable person’s voice, a cover, or an uploaded sample, get the necessary consent or rights and check the generator’s terms. Do not assume a paid commercial license clears someone else’s performance or recording.
  4. Save the paperwork with the project. Keep the generation date, plan, applicable terms, license certificate if offered, prompt and edit history, and copies of your lyrics or recordings. These records help show what you made and which permission you relied on.
  5. Check the destination’s disclosure and monetization rules. Spotify says it permits vocal impersonation only when the impersonated artist has authorized it, supports AI disclosures in credits, and uses a filter for spam and duplicate uploads. YouTube requires a label for realistic altered or synthetic content that could be mistaken for a real person’s performance; its inauthentic-content policy targets mass-produced or repetitive uploads, not AI use as such. Read the current Spotify policy announcement and YouTube policy coverage before publishing.

How The Listed Music Services Describe Commercial Use

These are the services in this comparison with stated rights information. A service’s permission to use a track commercially is distinct from a guarantee of copyright ownership. Read the linked terms for the exact plan, use, and current restrictions before release.

Service What The Available Rights Information Says What To Check
Suno Paid subscriber songs are described as usable for projects such as videos and album releases. The Free Plan has no commercial rights; commercial use rights are listed for Pro. Confirm your plan and the current terms for the specific track and release.

Musicful Downloads are described as carrying a non-exclusive, perpetual license for content use and monetization, while Musicful retains ownership. Commercial use is limited to Standard/Pro; Free/Basic is non-commercial. Confirm your plan and obtain the commercial license certificate if you need one.
Songin.ai Paid-plan music is described as available for commercial use. Free downloads are watermarked MP3s for personal use only; the stated Pro plan includes full commercial rights. Check which paid plan applies and its current deliverables.

Sunp Commercial usage is stated for paid plans; paid plans are described as the route to commercial publishing and certificate access under the current License Agreement. Read the License Agreement and confirm the plan and certificate requirements.

What A Commercial License Does Not Establish

  • Copyright ownership. A vendor’s license may let you publish or monetize a track without making wholly AI-generated material copyrightable. The Copyright Office’s position concerns U.S. copyrightability, not every country’s law.
  • Permission for a real person’s voice. A paid plan is not a substitute for consent to impersonate an artist. Spotify’s stated policy allows vocal impersonation only with that artist’s authorization.
  • Clearance of uploaded material. If you provide lyrics, samples, recordings, or reference audio, check that you have permission to use them and that the platform’s terms cover the workflow.
  • Acceptance by every distributor or platform. Each destination can set its own disclosure, licensing, and monetization conditions. Check those rules when you upload.

For a release where rights matter, choose a plan whose terms match the specific use, preserve evidence of your own creative contribution, and verify the destination’s rules before distribution.
