Google Lyria is Google’s music generation feature in the Gemini app. Google’s current music page calls its model Lyria 3.5 and says it can create tracks up to three minutes long from a prompt, with a choice of vocals or instruments. That makes it suitable to explore for short, personalized music ideas; the available facts do not establish a full song studio, detailed editing controls, or commercial-use rights. Google describes the feature as available in countries where the Gemini app is available, and says users must be at least 18. Google’s Lyria music-generation page is the place to check current availability and instructions.
What Google Lyria Does And What “Lyria 3” Means
The name can be confusing: the verified Google page describes “Lyria 3.5,” while this article uses “Lyria 3” to match the common search wording in the question. The page does not explain the naming relationship or give a release history, so check the current product page if the exact model version matters to you.

The workflow Google describes is simple: give Gemini a prompt for a new sound that suits a style, then choose whether the track should feature vocals or instruments. Google also presents turning a favorite meme or a cherished memory into music as a possible creative starting point. These descriptions support prompt-led music creation, but do not establish options such as note-by-note composition, multitrack arrangement, stem export, or precise control over structure.
What The Track Length Means In Practice
A limit of up to three minutes makes the stated output length clear, but it does not tell you how long a typical generation takes, whether every prompt reaches that maximum, or whether tracks can be extended. For a short piece, decide what its job is before prompting: a playful response to a meme, a personal musical keepsake, or a vocal or instrumental idea. Treat those as creative briefs, not guaranteed output formats; the source does not specify templates or dedicated modes for them.

How To Write A Useful First Prompt
Google confirms that a simple prompt can guide a new sound and that you can choose vocals or instruments. It does not publish a required prompt syntax or confirm that every musical parameter can be controlled. Start with a concise description of the purpose and feel you want, then make a separate choice about vocals or instruments. For example:

- For an instrumental idea: “Create a warm, unhurried instrumental sound for a quiet personal memory.” Then select instruments if that choice is offered in your Gemini experience.
- For a vocal idea: “Create an upbeat, playful song inspired by this meme.” Then choose vocals, if available.
- For a more personal track: Describe the memory or image in a few concrete words, and say whether you want singing or an instrumental piece.
These are example prompt phrasings, not tested recipes or promises about genre, instrumentation, lyrics, or mood accuracy. If you have a specific genre, instrument, language, tempo, or vocal style in mind, ask for it in plain language and check the result; Google’s stated feature details do not confirm support for those specifics or guarantee that the generated track will follow them.
What To Listen For When Reviewing A Result
Google says lyrics are improved and vocal parts sound fuller, but those are broad product descriptions rather than a guarantee for every generated song. When judging a result for your own purpose, listen for whether the vocal or instrumental choice suits the brief, whether the sound captures the intended mood, and whether the words and ending work for you. If the words matter, check them carefully instead of assuming they match your prompt exactly.

For a personal keepsake, a pleasing overall impression may be enough. For a track you plan to share or use in a project, consider whether its length and musical details fit the intended setting. The published information does not establish editing, regeneration, export, or other production controls, so verify those needs in the app before building a workflow around them.
Availability, Age And Watermarking
Google says AI music generation is available in all countries where the Gemini app is available and that users must be at least 18. It also says every track generated in the Gemini app includes SynthID, an invisible watermark that identifies content created with Google AI. These are specific to the Gemini app as described on Google’s page; confirm the current terms and access details there if they affect your plans.

Rights, Consent And Practical Limits
The available product details do not state whether generated tracks may be used commercially, how ownership works, or what rules apply to imitating a person’s voice, using samples, or making covers. Get consent where a real person’s voice or material is involved, and check Google’s terms for the use you have in mind. Do not assume that a generated track is cleared for commercial release or that a prompt grants rights to source material.
Overall, Lyria is described as a prompt-based way to make short music in Gemini, with a choice between vocals and instruments and room for personal or playful prompts. The clearest fit is experimenting with a musical idea up to three minutes long. For a specific genre or language, precise production controls, platform requirements beyond Gemini availability, or licensing certainty, the published details here are not enough; check Google’s current page and terms before depending on those capabilities.
