To make a song with AI, write a short creative brief, develop lyrics and structure, generate a vocal or instrumental draft, revise the sections that need work, and export a final mix. What Do You Need Before You Start?

Draft Lyrics And Song Structure

Give the draft a simple shape, such as verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus. Read the lyrics aloud and edit lines that feel generic, awkward to sing, or unrelated to the brief. Keep a copy of your own edits so you can identify your contribution.

Generate the First Musical Draft
Enter your brief and lyrics in Suno or Eleven Music, and request the vocal or instrumental approach you want. Generate options and compare them for melody, vocal delivery, arrangement, and whether the chorus supports the song’s central idea. Save the strongest version as your working draft.

Revise Weak Sections
Identify one specific problem at a time: a chorus that lacks lift, a lyric that is hard to sing, or an arrangement that feels too busy. Use Suno for editing, remixing, extensions, section replacement, and stem export, or use Eleven Music for section editing, inpainting, and genre transitions. Make a revision, listen in the context of the full song, and keep it only if it improves the track.

Export And Assemble the Track
Export the mix or stems using the options available on your chosen plan. Eleven Music lists stems and MP3/WAV exports. Suno supports stem export, but its Free Plan does not include stem separation. Review the current plan details before relying on any export feature; if you need a specific file format or download allowance, confirm it with the vendor.

Listen Through And Save a Final Version
Play the full track from beginning to end. Check that the opening arrives promptly, the vocal or lead is clear, transitions feel intentional, and the ending does not cut off awkwardly. Save the final mix and any project or stem files you may need for later revisions.

What Should You Check Before Publishing?
Review the specific platform terms for commercial use, downloads, and any restrictions that apply to your plan. Rights vary: Suno’s Free Plan does not include commercial rights, and Eleven Music says commercial rights vary by plan and exclude film, TV, and studio games. Do not assume a free generation or an export grants permission for every use.
Use only voices, lyrics, samples, and reference audio you have permission to use. If a platform lets you provide a voice reference or clone, get the voice owner’s consent and check that platform’s terms before generating or sharing the result.
The U.S. Copyright Office says works generated entirely by AI are not copyrightable, prompts alone do not make someone the author, and only human-authored parts of a mixed work may be protected. Applicants registering a work with more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material must disclose it and describe the human author’s contribution. See the U.S. Copyright Office’s AI report.
