Use Suno to turn a musical idea or lyrics into a complete song, then refine the result with edits, extensions, section replacement, remixing, or stem export. Start with a clear description of the sound and song structure you want; generate a draft; listen for what needs changing; and revise one element at a time.
Start With A Song Brief
Before generating, decide what the song needs to do. A useful brief names the subject, mood, vocal approach, instrumentation, and how the arrangement should change from section to section. Those details give Suno direction without requiring you to know production jargon.

- Subject: What is the song about, and what should the listener feel or understand?
- Vocal approach: Say whether you want a sung vocal or an instrumental track, and describe the delivery in plain language.
- Instruments and production: Name a few sounds you want to hear and whether the production should feel sparse, layered, polished, or raw.
- Structure and dynamics: Describe the opening, the lift into the chorus, and how the ending should resolve.
For example, a brief might say: “A reflective song about leaving home, with intimate vocals and a sparse opening. Add fuller instrumentation for the chorus, pull back for the second verse, then finish with a clear, resolved ending.” This is a creative prompt example, not a guarantee that Suno will follow every direction. Check Suno’s current guidance for any specific genre, control, or format you need.
Generate A First Draft
- Open Suno on the web or in its iOS or Android app.
- Choose whether the draft should include vocals or be instrumental, then enter your song idea and any lyrics you want to use. Suno can generate songs with vocals, lyrics, instrumentation, and production.
- Describe the arrangement in terms of sections and changes, rather than stacking many unrelated style words into one prompt.
- Generate a draft and listen through the whole song. Note specific issues, such as an unclear lyric, a chorus that does not lift, or an ending that feels abrupt.

Revise The Parts That Need Work
Make revisions against the notes from your listen. Suno supports editing, remixing, song extensions, section replacement, and stem export. These tools let you work on a draft in different ways; use the option that matches the problem you heard.
- A section needs a different take: Try section replacement and describe what should change while keeping the rest of the song’s direction clear.
- The song needs more length: Use an extension and tell Suno what should happen next—for example, whether to return to the chorus or move toward a quieter ending.
- You want another interpretation: Remix the draft with a revised description of the sound or arrangement.
- You want to work with separate parts: Export stems if your plan includes stem separation, then use them in your next production step.
Change one main instruction at a time. If you revise the vocal delivery, arrangement, and ending together, it becomes harder to tell which change improved the result.
