“Free” AI music can still cost you through generation limits, paid-only commercial rights, attribution requirements, platform restrictions, or the time and equipment needed to finish a track. Before using a free song in a public video, podcast, game, or client project, check what the plan allows, what you can download, and who owns or licenses the result.
What “Free” Can Cost You
- More attempts: A free tier may cap credits or generations. If you need several versions, the included allowance may not be enough.
- Permission to publish: Free use can be personal-only or require attribution. Commercial rights may require a subscription, and terms can differ by plan.
- Control and delivery: A free plan may omit stems or other production options. If you need separate vocal and instrumental parts, confirm they are available on your plan.
- Ownership and privacy: A license to use a track is not necessarily ownership. Check whether tracks can be private and what rights the service retains.
- Hardware and setup: Local software may have no subscription, but its AI features can depend on suitable hardware. A cloud service may be easier to start, while its free allowance can be limited.
How Free Options Compare
These examples show why the word “free” is not a complete description of cost. Plan limits and rights below are only those established for the stated offer; check the linked vendor terms for your intended use.

| Tool | Free access or limit | Rights or other cost to check |
|---|---|---|
| Suno | Free Plan: 50 credits per day; Suno says free users can create up to 10 songs a day. | Free Plan does not include commercial rights or stem separation. Suno says paid subscriber songs are theirs to keep and use; check the applicable plan terms. |
| Eleven Music | Free plan: 10,000 credits per month. | Free use is personal and Marketplace access is browse-only. Commercial rights vary by subscription tier; check the terms for your use. |
| Song.do | Free use is limited to one credit and one generation per day. | Some models are subscriber-only. Check the current plan and licensing terms before publishing. |
| Musicful | Free plan available; a free-generation count is not stated. | Free/Basic use is non-commercial. Musicful says it retains ownership of generated tracks and provides a non-exclusive perpetual license on download; confirm the license suits your project. |
| SongGPT | Free credits are available to try the generator; a specific quantity is not stated. | Commercial licensing is included on paid plans. The vendor says its commercial license covers ads, videos, and client projects; check plan terms for your use. |
| Aimi | Free studio for recording, editing, mixing, uploading, exporting, publishing, and remixing. AI turns cost 10 credits each; credits do not expire. | Credit packs start at $6. Commercial releases have restrictions concerning sample-library and uploaded content. A signup offer says accounts created before November 1, 2026 receive 3,000 credits; new signups after that date get 1,000. |
| AI Game Music Generator | 60 credits on signup, described as 5 AI music tracks. | Songs cannot be kept private and are owned by the service. Starter is listed at $9.9/month for 360 credits. |
| AI Makes Song | Free users can test and publish with attribution. | Paid plans unlock commercial rights for videos, podcasts, and games. Check the vendor’s terms for attribution and your intended use. |
| Resonant | Free, open-source Windows workstation; no credits or subscription. | AI generation depends on optional local providers and suitable hardware. The project says songs stay yours with no company ownership, watermark, or royalties. |
Choose By What You Need To Publish
Personal experiments
If you are making music for private listening or learning, a free plan can be enough. Keep the track within the stated personal-use allowance, and do not assume that being able to generate or download it grants permission for a monetized video or client deliverable.
Public videos, podcasts, or client work
Check the rights attached to the exact plan before generating work you intend to publish. Musicful states that Free/Basic is non-commercial; Eleven Music says rights vary by tier; and AI Makes Song says free users can publish with attribution while paid plans unlock commercial rights for videos, podcasts, and games. Those are different conditions, so compare the terms against your use rather than treating “free” as a universal license.

Games and interactive projects
Privacy and ownership can matter when a soundtrack is part of a project that has not launched. AI Game Music Generator says songs cannot be private and are owned by the service, so that arrangement may not suit unreleased work. AI Makes Song identifies paid commercial rights for games, but check its current terms for the specific project.
Editing and separate parts
If you need to rebalance vocals and instruments or edit a track in another application, check for stem access before you build a workflow around a free tier. Suno explicitly excludes stem separation from its Free Plan; the other product descriptions do not establish the exact free-plan export options, so consult their sites.
Recommended Free Tools
A Practical Free-First Workflow
- Write down the use. Note whether the music is private, public, monetized, for a client, or for a game. Include whether the project needs private tracks.
- Set a short brief. For example: “Instrumental background for a two-minute tutorial; calm, steady pulse; no vocals; leave room for spoken narration; resolve cleanly at the end.” This describes a musical goal without assuming a particular service supports every detail.
- Check the plan before generating. Confirm the remaining free credits or generations, whether the planned use is allowed, and whether the needed download or stems are included. If any of those specifics are not stated, check the vendor site.
- Generate only what you can evaluate. Try a small number of variations within the free allowance. Keep notes on which prompt changes helped so you do not spend credits repeating the same attempt.
- Save the terms with the track. Keep the plan name, date, license or attribution requirements, and source of the download alongside the project files. Recheck the terms if you change plans or repurpose the music.
Voices, Covers, Samples, And Rights
Do not imitate or use an identifiable person’s voice without their consent, and only upload audio or samples you have permission to use. AI music services can set different rules for inputs, outputs, attribution, and commercial use; read the relevant platform terms before releasing work. The product information here does not establish that any listed service clears a third party’s voice, composition, or sample for your use.

Paying may make sense when a project needs commercial rights, more generations, or production exports that the free option does not provide. A local workstation such as Resonant removes subscription and credit charges according to its project description, but requires Windows and suitable hardware for local AI features. Compare the cost of the plan, any credit purchases, and the time needed to get a usable result against the requirements of the project. For any unlisted price, limit, platform, or licensing condition, check the vendor’s site before committing.
