Overview

CORE brings routine aid administration and loan-limit logic into one cloud-based system. It is designed for financial aid directors and officers at nursing, allied health, beauty and wellness, and trade and technical schools. Schools that need support beyond software can also choose managed services or request project work such as compliance reviews and interim staffing.

Key features

The system handles ISIR imports, document verification, award packaging, disbursement processing, and tracking without manual re-entry. Document collection and award-letter delivery are supported, alongside compliance reporting. This end-to-end coverage should suit teams coordinating the aid cycle; institutions seeking only a narrow task may find the broader workflow unnecessary.

CORE identifies applicable loan limits and applies grandfathering logic using packaging and expected graduation dates. It also provides loan controls by program, tracks enrollment transitions, and reassesses loans automatically when enrollment thresholds are crossed. These controls are most relevant to schools that need to manage loan eligibility through program and enrollment changes.

Programs can be clock-hour, credit-hour, term-based, or hybrid. Portico says its software is regularly updated to align with federal, state, and institutional policies, and includes audit-ready reporting. It integrates with Department of Education systems including COD, NSLDS, and Clearinghouse, and connects with most SIS/ERP platforms through API or FTP. Named SIS integrations include Anthology, Orbund, Verity, Maestro, Stars (exports only), Diamond, CampusLogin, and Populi. Schools should confirm that their own SIS connection is supported.

The web-based product requires no installation. Onboarding includes training resources, live Q&A, documentation, and a dedicated account manager. That support structure may help financial aid teams during rollout, though no deployment timeline is given for CORE.

Pricing

Portico Financial Aid Software (formerly Campus Ivy CORE) has custom pricing, with per-student pricing that scales with the school. It is a paid cloud product with federal aid coverage, API access, document collection, award-letter delivery, packaging workflows, and compliance reporting. The scaling model ties cost to school size, but without a public price, schools cannot readily compare budgets before requesting a demo or quote.

Platforms

CORE is web-based and runs on Android and iOS, with API access. Its cloud deployment and browser access avoid local installation, while mobile platform support gives schools additional access options.

Who it's for

CORE is aimed at financial aid teams in career-focused institutions, especially schools in nursing, allied health, beauty and wellness, and trade and technical education. Its support for several academic models and a range of federal aid workflows makes it a stronger fit for schools with varied programs than for organizations needing only a standalone reporting or document tool.

Pros and cons

Pros

Connected aid processing: ISIR imports, verification, packaging, disbursement, and tracking reduce manual re-entry across the workflow.
Loan-limit controls: Grandfathering logic and automatic reassessment when enrollment thresholds are crossed address consequential changes in eligibility.
Broad integration coverage: Department of Education connections and multiple named SIS integrations can support schools with established systems.
Flexible service model: Schools can operate the software in-house, outsource financial aid, or request project support.

Cons

Custom pricing: Per-student pricing scales with school size, but a quote is needed to assess cost and compare plans.
Connection fit still matters: Although Portico connects with most SIS/ERP platforms, schools should verify compatibility with their own system.

Alternatives

Financial Aid Management Software is the broader category for comparing tools in this area. Choose Populi Financial Aid if a published month-to-month price and included file storage, data transfer, email, and SMS quotas are more useful for budgeting; its plan is 1999.00 USD per month. ProSAM Solution Suite is another paid option, with pricing by quote and web, Windows, Linux, and self-hosted platforms.

Oracle NetSuite for Government is an alternative with Android, iOS, web, and API platforms. VIAS Financial Plans is a paid alternative that directs prospective buyers to request a demo or initial needs assessment. Choose EDExpress if a free Windows option is the priority; it is provided to institutions at no charge.

Ellucian PowerCampus Financial Aid, Ellucian Banner Finance, and PowerFAIDS are also alternatives for schools comparing financial aid products.

Verdict

Portico CORE is a strong fit for career schools whose aid teams need full-cycle processing alongside loan-limit and enrollment-change controls. Its varied program support, federal-system connections, and service options strengthen the case. The principal reason to look elsewhere is budget clarity: per-student custom pricing requires a quote, and schools must confirm their SIS connection before committing.
