XMLmind Ebook Compiler
xmlmind.com
What it is
XMLmind Ebook Compiler converts collections of HTML pages into self-contained ebooks. It supports interactive material such as audio, video, slide shows and multiple-choice questions, plus automatic contents, indexes, numbering, cross-references, footnotes, conditional processing and XInclude reuse. Output formats are EPUB, Web Help, PDF, RTF, WML, DOCX and ODT, with ebook validation available. Source pages must be valid XHTML; Markdown is supported through configurable dialects and syntax extensions. The Java-based compiler runs from the command line or embeds in desktop and server applications. It is free, open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, and runs on Linux, macOS and Windows. PDF output needs a registered XSL-FO processor, while RTF requires XMLmind XSL-FO Converter. Version 1.12.3 is offered in a platform-independent ZIP. XMLmind says maintenance may continue until April 3, 2027, after which products will be discontinued.
