Overview

abas ERP brings purchasing, sales, production, warehousing, service, finance, and management into one system. Its planning and control capabilities cover one-off, repetitive, project, contract, and subcontracting manufacturers, making it a more natural fit for varied manufacturing operations than for a business looking only for a focused production-planning tool.

The maker, based in Karlsruhe, Germany, was founded in 1980 and reports more than 4,000 implementations in over 30 countries and more than 120,000 users. Abas says its software is certified to ISO 9001:2015. It also says it regularly updates security protections, but does not publish details of its security strategy.

Key features

Production planning and control

Production scheduling, multi-level bills of materials, purchase and capacity planning, and multi-site planning address the connected decisions manufacturers must coordinate across production and purchasing. Demand inputs can come from both. The breadth is useful for businesses managing different production models and locations, though companies with simpler workflows may not need a system spanning so many processes.

Customization and integration

Low-code customization lets companies adapt processes, and Abas describes those changes as upgrade-compatible. Abas Connect provides graphical, low-code connections to software and devices such as CRM, machine controls, and warehouse management systems. The REST API offers real-time read and write access through ERP core logic and company-specific customizations, while DMS, Microsoft SQL, and PDM connectors extend integration options; standard PDM connections include PRO.FILE and keytech PLM. This flexibility can help manufacturers connect existing systems, but tailoring integrations and workflows is part of the implementation effort.

Deployment, access, and support

Abas ERP uses Linux as its server operating system, with a cloud edition on AWS infrastructure. Users can access it from Windows computers and mobile devices, and the web client runs in a browser on internet-connected computers or devices. After implementation, customers can use interactive training and workshops, a user group, and phone support from the Abas team. The combination suits organizations that need several access options and ongoing assistance, but support is an ongoing cost rather than an included free service.

Pricing

Abas ERP uses paid, custom pricing. The one-time software cost, implementation cost, and ongoing support fee are listed as separate cost components, while implementation costs vary with the number of users, process complexity, data migration, desired functions, and adjustments. That makes a project-specific quote essential: buyers should compare the full implementation and support commitment, not just the software charge.

Platforms

Abas ERP supports Android, iOS, Linux, web, and Windows, as well as API access and self-hosted deployment. Its deployment model is hybrid, with Linux servers and an AWS-based cloud edition. The browser client and mobile access accommodate users away from Windows computers, while organizations should match the self-hosted or cloud approach to their operating requirements.

Who it's for

Abas ERP is aimed at midmarket manufacturing companies that need production planning tied to purchasing, inventory, sales, service, and finance. Its support for multiple manufacturing models, multi-site planning, and low-code customization makes it a stronger fit for businesses with varied or company-specific processes. A manufacturer seeking a narrow, low-commitment planning tool should look elsewhere if it does not need this operational breadth or cannot justify implementation and continuing support costs.

Pros and cons

Pros

Broad manufacturing coverage: Planning and control span one-off, repetitive, project, contract, and subcontracting work, alongside purchasing, warehouse, service, finance, and management.
Adaptable integration: Low-code customization, Abas Connect, a real-time REST API, and named DMS, SQL, and PDM connections give companies several ways to link processes and systems.
Multiple access and deployment options: Web and mobile access complement Windows clients, while self-hosted and AWS cloud options support different operating preferences.

Cons

Costs depend on the project: Software, implementation, and continuing support are distinct costs, and implementation varies with users, data migration, complexity, functions, and adjustments.
Security detail is limited: Abas says it updates protections regularly but does not publish its security strategy, leaving buyers to ask for specifics during evaluation.
Broad scope may be unnecessary for simpler operations: Companies that need only a focused planning tool may take on more system and implementation scope than their workflows require.

Alternatives

For a narrower production-planning need, compare Production Planning Software, Material Requirements Planning Software, and Manufacturing ERP Software. For finance-focused comparisons, see Manufacturing Accounting Software and Cost Accounting Software; for a broader ERP search, use ERP Software.

NETVIBES is a paid alternative with a free plan and free trial, and it supports Android, iOS, web, and self-hosted platforms; its Enterprise Data Science plan lists 17 portfolio roles. Verdict

Choose abas ERP if your midmarket manufacturing business needs a broad system for coordinating varied production models with purchasing, warehousing, service, finance, and tailored integrations. Its planning breadth and low-code flexibility are the main reasons to choose it; seek another option if your needs are narrow, or if project-specific implementation and ongoing support costs are not a fit.
