| API | The Web Services API supports SOAP 1.1–1.2 and REST and is included in the core license. | Salt netapi modules provide network API access over REST through HTTP and WSGI and through WebSockets. |
| Compliance | All changes to ActiveBatch objects are audited with object, time, action and user details, and revisions can be rolled back. | SaltStack Config provides security policies with industry-standard compliance profiles such as CIS and DISA STIGS. |
| Integrations | Published integrations include ServiceNow, Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, SAP, Oracle PeopleSoft, SharePoint, Informatica, Microsoft System Center, CyberArk and many others. | SaltStack Config integrates with LDAP, SAML, OIDC, and Active Directory. |
| License | The EULA restricts copying, reverse engineering, rental and component separation, indicating proprietary commercial licensing rather than open source. | Salt is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license. |
| Purpose | ActiveBatch is a workload automation and enterprise job scheduling platform for orchestrating end-to-end IT and business processes. | Salt is a Python-based, open-source framework for remote execution, configuration management, automation, provisioning, and orchestration. |
| Security | ActiveBatch supports multi-factor authentication for its Console, Web Console, Self-Service Portal and Mobile Ops interfaces. | Salt uses RSA keys for authentication, AES keys for encryption, and rotates the AES key every 24 hours by default or when a minion is deleted. |
| Support | Redwood states that it provides global 24 x 365 customer support through email, phone and a support portal. | The project directs users to GitHub issues for bugs and problems and to Discord for community technical support and discussions. |

In their own words
ActiveBatch
ActiveBatch is a workload automation and enterprise job scheduling platform for coordinating IT and business processes. Its low-code/no-code visual designer combines drag-and-drop workflow creation with hundreds of pre-built job steps. Jobs can start when external events occur or follow date and time schedules. Customizable monitoring, alerts, reporting and SLA monitoring help track execution; dependency controls, retries, recovery and execution observability are also listed. Integrations include PowerShell, SQL Server, ServiceNow and Microsoft Azure Data Factory. The Web Services API supports SOAP 1.1–1.2 and REST and is included in the core license. ActiveBatch supports on-premises, public-cloud, private-cloud and hybrid deployments, with execution agents for several operating systems. Its browser-based Web Console and Self-Service Portal provide interfaces for approved processes, with the portal intended for business and help desk users under IT control. Multi-factor authentication, audited object changes and revision rollback are supported. Pricing is on request; there is no free plan, and a free trial is available.
Salt
Salt is a free, open-source framework for remote execution, configuration management, provisioning and infrastructure orchestration. A single execution can run commands across thousands of systems in seconds. A typical setup has a master managing minions, but Salt also supports agentless operation through salt-ssh or salt-proxy and stand-alone use. Salt states define configurations that can be extended and layered, while orchestration can order work by dependency, such as preparing a load balancer before a web-server cluster. Salt Cloud provisions systems on cloud hosts and hypervisors and can connect new virtual machines to a master. Its documented providers include Amazon EC2, Google Compute Engine, Azure, OpenStack, DigitalOcean, Linode, VMware and Proxmox. SaltStack Config adds a web interface, role-based access control, multi-master support, reporting and an enterprise API, along with LDAP, SAML, OIDC and Active Directory integrations. Salt uses RSA key authentication and encrypted master-minion communication. It is self-hosted and licensed under Apache 2.0.
