Overview

Adagio brings teaching and studio administration together across web, Android, and iOS. Teachers can manage students and lessons, while students have a separate Practice app for work between classes. The result suits studios that want classroom organization and student engagement in one service, though practice records are shared with teachers only when students opt in.

Key features

Scheduling, homework, lesson notes, goals, a calendar, and a class feed cover the recurring work around lessons. Teachers can track practice time; students can log sessions, notes, and personal to-do lists in the Practice app. Comments, a social feed, and points and levels for practice sessions offer ways to keep students involved between classes. The opt-in requirement gives students control over sharing, but it also means teachers cannot assume they will see practice logs or assigned work.

Billing supports manual invoices as well as invoices generated after a completed lesson, with digital payment options such as PayPal and email reminders for overdue invoices. That is useful for routine collections, but automated billing and invoices are Premium features. The homepage also describes API connections for bringing existing tools and data into Adagio.

The Organization Plan supports multiple teachers and classrooms, administrative oversight, and shared class access, making it relevant to schools and large studios rather than a solo teacher. Students can download the Practice app through Apple or Google app stores by searching for Musopen.

Pricing

Plan	Price	What it includes
Free Plan	0.00 USD per month (billed $0 USD/mo)	Unlimited students, calendar, lesson scheduler, homework, goals, class feed, billing, and free website
Premium plan	5.00 USD per month (billed $5 USD/mo)	All Free Plan features, automated billing and invoices, custom domain support, newsletters, practice audio, and free Musopen Pro membership
Organization Plan	Custom pricing	Multiple teachers and classrooms, administrative oversight, and shared class access

The Free Plan is a practical starting point for solo teachers: it allows unlimited students and includes scheduling, homework, goals, billing, and a free website. Premium at 5.00 USD per month keeps those features and adds automation, custom domain support, newsletters, practice audio, and Musopen Pro membership. It is the sensible upgrade for teachers who want less invoice follow-up or those added tools; billing can still be handled manually on the free tier. Studios that need multiple teacher accounts and oversight should consider the Organization Plan, which uses custom pricing.

Platforms

Adagio runs on web, Android, and iOS. The student Practice app is distributed through the Apple and Google app stores under the search term Musopen.

Who it's for

Independent music teachers get the most straightforward fit: unlimited students and core classroom administration come without a monthly charge. Teachers who value automated invoicing, custom-domain support, newsletters, or practice audio have a clear $5-per-month step up. Schools and large studios can use the Organization Plan's multiple-teacher and administrative structure. Adagio is less suitable where a teacher needs guaranteed access to student practice records, since students choose whether to share them.

Pros and cons

Pros: The Free Plan combines unlimited students with scheduling, homework, goals, a class feed, billing, and a website, avoiding a student cap for growing solo studios.
Pros: Premium adds automated billing and invoices for 5.00 USD per month while retaining all free features.
Pros: Organization accounts support multiple teachers, classrooms, oversight, and shared access, addressing needs beyond a one-teacher studio.
Cons: Automated billing and invoices are reserved for Premium, so free users must rely on manual billing.
Cons: Practice data sharing depends on student opt-in, limiting what teachers can see when students decline.

Alternatives

Music Lesson Scheduling Software is a directory of options to compare if you want to look beyond Adagio.

CogNote has a free self-hosted plan with unlimited students and lessons, and describes itself as built by a working piano studio for daily use; consider it if self-hosting or that studio-focused origin matters to you.
Harness offers a free web Hobby plan for up to five students, with calendar, scheduling, attendance, family portal, transaction ledger, and income and expense tracking; it may suit a small roster that wants those financial tools.
Nova Music has a free iOS and web plan capped at 10 students, with scheduling, group lessons, basic attendance, messaging, portal, and 100 MB storage; choose it if that smaller cap and group-lesson support fit your studio.
Clefwise offers a free plan for three students with scheduling, invoicing, online payments, a parent portal, and lesson notes; it may fit a very small studio that wants those functions at no cost.
My Music Staff is a paid Android, iOS, and web option at 14.95 USD per month for one teacher account, with additional teachers or administrators at 4.95 USD per month each; consider it if a paid service with a defined per-account cost suits your staffing needs.
AMES has a free plan and charges a 1.25% transaction fee on successful payments at its standard starting rate; consider it if payment-linked fees are preferable to Adagio's monthly Premium price.
DuetStudio offers a free web plan with unlimited active and inactive students, scheduling, notes, assignments, practice tracking, a portal, and manual invoicing; it may suit teachers prioritizing those tools without a paid plan.
Legato is a paid Android, iOS, and web option at 19.99 USD per month, with unlimited students, calendar views, automated Stripe billing, and Legato AI; consider it if those paid features are the better match.

Verdict

Adagio is an easy recommendation for independent music teachers who want a full classroom toolkit without paying per student, and for larger studios that need shared organization. The strongest reason to choose it is the breadth of its unlimited-student free plan; look elsewhere if student practice data must be visible by default or if another service's particular billing or studio workflow better suits your operation.
