In their own words
Adept
Adept combines product data management with engineering document management for teams handling design files and related records. It manages parts, assemblies, drawings, XREFs, and configurations, with check-in, check-out, move, and rename actions. CAD integrations include SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Inventor, with access through an expandable task pane; other listed CAD integrations include MicroStation, AutoCAD Electrical, and Navisworks. Teams can route designs for review and approval, manage document states, receive notifications, and retain workflow activity in an audit trail. CAD, PDF, and Office files can be viewed and marked up without a CAD license. Permissions are available for users and groups, alongside single sign-on, multifactor authentication, and encrypted storage. Adept can run on a customer's own infrastructure or as Adept Cloud, a managed SaaS platform. On-premise named-user plans start at $12 a month, billed $144 per named user/year. Adept Cloud Essentials is $1,400 a month, billed annually, with 20,000 assets included and a mandatory $10,000 onboarding fee for new customers. Cloud asset allowances exclude prior versions; several listed add-ons are not available for Adept Cloud.
SOLIDWORKS
SOLIDWORKS provides 3D software for creating, simulating, publishing, and managing product data. SOLIDWORKS Design supports parts, assemblies, drawings, sheet-metal, and framing workflows; the portfolio also includes simulation tools for evaluating performance, efficiency, and durability. The installed Design application can work offline. With Cloud Services, it connects to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for collaboration and data management, including sharing and marking up designs and managing revisions. Browser-based xDesign tools provide modeling without a local installation. Standard with Cloud Services costs $2,820 a year for a single machine-locked device, excluding local taxes. Professional costs $3,456 a year and Premium costs $4,716 a year, each for a single user and excluding local taxes. A Makers plan costs $48 a year for personal, non-commercial use, and Design Standard is free for students. The listed platforms include macOS, web, and Windows, though client SOLIDWORKS products list Windows 10 and Windows 11 64-bit support; eDrawings for Mac lists supported macOS releases. Online purchases include support, and orders can be canceled and refunded within 15 days.
