Overview

Osclass supplies an open-source PHP and MySQL foundation rather than a hosted marketplace. Its project dates to 2011; OsclassPoint took over active development and maintenance in 2020, and its products are managed by Slovakia-registered AB profitrade, s.r.o. The web installer typically completes in about 1–2 minutes once database credentials are ready, after uploading a roughly 7 MB package.

That compact start is not the whole site: themes, plugins, language packs and geolocation SQL data are added separately, and commercial themes and plugins cost extra. Buyers get control over a self-hosted installation, but must account for their own hosting and assembly work.

Key features

Listings and customization

The core brings together listings, nested categories, custom fields, comments, media uploads, users, moderation, locations, currencies and the oc-admin backoffice. Listing approval and seller messaging support routine marketplace operations. Themes and plugins can use hooks and filters, child themes, custom CSS and JavaScript, and theme routes; this gives developers room to adapt a site without editing core files.

Search, languages and payments

Canonical URLs, hreflang, relevance sorting, RSS controls and custom search URL rules with up to 26 patterns offer useful control over discoverability. Staging noindex settings help keep a staging site out of search results. Built-in .po/.mo translation support, multiple active languages, RTL where themes support it, utf8mb4 emoji and locale currencies make international sites feasible, though language packs are separate additions.

Paid listings are not part of the basic toolkit: the premium Osclass Pay extension adds featured listings, publish fees, wallets, memberships and connectors including Stripe, PayPal, bank transfer and regional gateways. Free extensions include Cloudflare Turnstile and tracking integrations for GA4, Yandex, HotJar, Piwik, plus custom head and footer snippets.

Operations and requirements

Osclass provides searchable action logs, IP or email-pattern bans with hit counts and expiry, SMTP diagnostics, backups, maintenance mode and configurable log retention. It requires PHP 7.4+ with CURL, MySQLi and GD, plus MySQL 5.7+ or MariaDB; the base install needs 10 MB of disk space. This is a modest software footprint, but running it still calls for a compatible server and someone to maintain it.

Pricing

Plan	Price	Best fit
Osclass core	Free	Operators able to build around the self-hosted core
Starter Bundle	199.99 EUR per once	Buyers seeking a smaller paid collection (20 items)
Premium Bundle	399.99 EUR per once	Sites needing a broader collection (52 items)
Ultimate PRO Bundle	499.99 EUR per once	Buyers wanting the largest collection (150+ items)

The core is free under Apache License 2.0 and self-hosted. Bundles are one-time purchases, with stated savings of 55%, 70% and 85% respectively. The core gives up bundled paid extras: the bundle item counts suggest progressively broader collections, while commercial themes and plugins may still be sold separately. Operators who need payment collection or featured listings should budget for Osclass Pay rather than assume those functions come with the free core.

Platforms

Osclass is self-hosted web software. It is not a native mobile app; the web platform is the mobile-accessible offering.

Who it's for

Choose Osclass if you want an open-source base for a marketplace or niche directory, can supply compatible PHP and database hosting, and value control over themes, routes and extensions. Look elsewhere if you need a turnkey hosted service or want payment tools and a finished design without selecting and adding components.

Pros and cons

Pros: The free, self-hosted core covers essential listing and moderation workflows, so technically capable operators can start without a software license fee.
Pros: Hooks, filters and child themes allow substantial customization without changing core files.
Pros: Translation, SEO and security controls support more than a bare listing script.
Cons: Themes, plugins, language packs and geolocation data must be added after the core install, and commercial extensions add cost.
Cons: Payment features depend on the premium Osclass Pay extension, so the free core alone is not a complete paid-listing business toolkit.
Cons: Self-hosting and server requirements put maintenance responsibility on the operator.

Alternatives

Classifieds Software is a useful place to compare the category. Consider UltimateWB Classifieds if you want a paid product with a cloud starter at 25.00 USD per month and broad platform coverage. Tamaranga is another paid alternative, with a one-time 2600.00 USD standard service renewal for updates, support and AI Team while the platform license remains. Choose Flynax Classifieds Software if a 95.00 USD per once license with unencrypted source code, 42 free plugins and a responsive template better fits your needs.

ShopClass is a free, self-hosted open-source alternative. WPAdverts and AWP Classifieds are free-plan alternatives. OpenClassify is another free, self-hosted option with open-source code and modules. Adwos CMS offers a paid web-and-app direction, including a 54990.00 RUB one-time iOS and Android app plan.

Verdict

Osclass is a strong fit for developers and marketplace operators who want a free, extensible classifieds foundation and are prepared to run it themselves. Its core workflow, customization hooks and internationalization tools make it adaptable; its main drawback is that a polished, monetized site may require separately added data, themes and commercial extensions. Pick it for control and a low-cost starting point, not for a ready-made hosted business.
