In their own words
AI Image Alt Text Generator
AI Image Alt Text Generator is a free, open-source WordPress plugin that creates descriptive image alt text during uploads or when requested. It can process multiple images in the media library and gallery block, while manual controls are available in the image block and media library. Automatic generation during upload can be configured. The plugin works with OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, and other providers configured through the WordPress AI Client. At least one provider must be configured under Settings → Connectors, with plugin options under Settings → Media. Images are sent to the selected provider’s API, so that provider’s terms and privacy policy apply. Polylang support detects an image’s language or its parent post’s language. A generation ability is exposed through the WordPress Abilities API. Installation involves uploading to /wp-content/plugins/, activating in WordPress, and configuring a provider. The listing requires WordPress 7.0 or higher and PHP 8.1 or higher. The Free plugin plan is free; providers may charge per request.
