In their own words
AI Journal Pro
AI Journal Pro is a journaling app for Android and iOS that supports both typed and spoken entries. Voice entries are transcribed, and users can edit the cleaned transcription before saving. AI features can produce weekly insights, monthly recaps and a year in review based on journal entries. Users can mark entries Bad, Neutral or Good, with colored mood dots shown in the calendar. Entries can include photos, tags, Markdown and checklists; the app also offers full-text search, starred entries, biometric locking, reminders and AI suggestions for titles, tags and moods. Reading and writing work offline, while voice transcription and AI recaps require an internet connection. Entries are stored locally in a SQLite database by default; optional sync uses Google Drive or, on iOS, iCloud. The maker says journal data is encrypted locally and in cloud sync with AES-256, and that AI processing requires permission and does not retain submitted content beyond the request or use it for model training. The free plan includes writing, calendar, search, on-device dictation and export. AI transcription, text cleanup and recaps cost €4.99/month; an own-key option costs €39.99 one-time, with provider costs paid directly.
Reflection
Reflection is a private journaling app for personal reflection and mental wellness. Its AI Coach can ask follow-up questions about entries and help identify patterns, while the journaling library contains more than 100 expert-led guides and programs. Users can dictate entries for transcription or hold spoken back-and-forth conversations through Voice Call, with transcripts saved. The app imports from Day One or CSV and exports to PDF, JSON, or CSV. Its maker says entries are encrypted at rest with AES-256 and in transit with TLS 1.2 or greater, and are not used to train AI models. Users can disable all AI features and continue using the rest of the app. The free plan includes private entries, prompts, reminders, and import and export, but limits cross-device syncing and allows one photo per entry. Premium adds unlimited syncing and multiple photos, along with AI search and writing support. Premium costs $5.75 per month when billed annually or $8.00 per month. A seven-day trial is available. Reflection runs on Android, iOS, macOS, and the web.
