Overview

Cards work across more than 60 markets, and cardholders can spend from the currency balances the business holds. When a purchase requires a currency that is not held, Airwallex says it converts funds from the primary balance. With no international transaction fees, that makes the cards a practical option for cross-border spending, though the business still needs sufficient funds.

Employee cards can be virtual or physical; company cards are virtual. Virtual cards support spending limits and merchant-category blocks, and single-use cards can expire after one transaction. These controls help constrain employee and one-off purchases. Airwallex also describes real-time transaction visibility and receipt capture and matching through its expense tools, which can make it easier to track transactions and collect supporting records.

Key features

Multi-currency Visa cards: Spend from held balances, with automatic conversion from the primary balance when a needed currency is not held. This suits international teams without requiring a separate card for every currency.
Card controls: Set limits and merchant-category blocks on virtual cards, or use single-use cards for purchases that should not remain active after one transaction.
Expense handling: Real-time transaction visibility, receipt capture and matching support expense oversight. A mobile app supports submitting and approving expenses.
Accounting connections: Xero and QuickBooks bank feed, expense and bill syncing are included in Explore. NetSuite and Dynamics 365 Business Central integrations are available on Grow.
Cash rebates: Explore includes up to 2% cash rebates on local USD spend; the US corporate cards page advertises 2% cashback. The stated rebate is tied to local USD spend, not all purchases.

Airwallex's Trust Center lists PCI DSS, SOC 1, SOC 2, GDPR and ISO/IEC 27001 among its compliance credentials. That gives security-conscious buyers concrete standards to consider, but does not replace evaluating their own requirements.

Pricing

Explore is free, billed at $0 per user/month. It includes unlimited multi-currency corporate cards with zero international fees, up to 2% cash rebates on local USD spend, advanced card controls, and Xero and QuickBooks integrations. It is the natural starting point for teams that need cards and core expense visibility without a subscription. Its key limitation is that customizable multi-conditional approvals, rules-based expense automation, and NetSuite and Dynamics 365 Business Central integrations are reserved for Grow.

Grow costs 12.00 USD per month, billed at $12 per user/month plus a platform fee based on team size. It includes everything in Explore, along with customizable multi-conditional approvals, advanced rules-based expense automation, and the additional accounting integrations. This is the better fit when a team needs those workflows; the platform fee means the per-user rate alone does not capture the full cost.

Accelerate has custom pricing and includes everything in Grow, a custom direct Spend API integration with ERP, centralized financial management across up to 3 global entities, a dedicated account manager and onboarding support. It is aimed at organizations that need those enterprise-oriented capabilities, though the price must be assessed individually.

Platforms

Airwallex supports Android, iOS, web and API. The mobile app supports expense submission and approval, while the API platform is relevant to teams considering custom integration.

Who it's for

Airwallex describes its platform as serving businesses from startups to public enterprises. Explore is particularly suited to teams wanting multi-currency cards, basic controls and Xero or QuickBooks syncing without a per-user subscription. Grow fits businesses that need configurable approvals, automation or the broader accounting integrations. Accelerate is the tier to consider for a custom ERP Spend API connection or centralized management across up to three entities.

It is less suitable for buyers who require physical company cards, or for teams whose needs do not justify Grow's per-user charge and team-size-based platform fee.

Pros and cons

Pro: Unlimited multi-currency corporate cards and no international transaction fees on the free Explore plan make it a strong starting point for cross-border spend.
Pro: Virtual-card limits, merchant-category blocks and single-use expiry provide practical ways to restrict purchases.
Pro: Receipt handling and real-time transaction visibility connect card spending with expense oversight.
Con: Company cards are virtual only, which rules out physical cards for that card type.
Con: Customizable approvals, advanced expense automation and NetSuite and Dynamics 365 Business Central integrations require Grow, with a platform fee on top of its per-user price.
Con: Accelerate uses custom pricing, so organizations must seek a tailored quote for its API, entity-management and support package.

Verdict

Airwallex Corporate Cards are a strong choice for businesses that need multi-currency employee spending, card controls and expense visibility, particularly when Explore's free plan and Xero or QuickBooks syncing cover the essentials. Choose Grow when configurable approvals, automation or its additional accounting integrations justify the per-user price and team-size-based platform fee. Look elsewhere if physical company cards are essential or those paid-plan costs do not fit your needs.
