Overview

Akurasense combines temperature visibility with operational records for cold-chain teams handling sensitive shipments and storage. It is best suited to operations and QA groups that need to connect readings with custody and exception handling. Its main advantage is that a trip record can bring temperature performance, events, and actions together; the trade-off is a required Akuratemp S.M.A.R.T Shippers purchase for the free plan and custom pricing for the paid tiers.

Use cases include diagnostic samples, therapy shipments, courier routes, home-care collections, and fixed storage. The platform covers mobile and fixed assets, from courier totes and passive coolers to refrigerators and lab fridges. Akuratemp was founded in 2020 and is headquartered in Arden, North Carolina.

Key features

Temperature monitoring and alerts: Akurasense logs temperature and custody data and flags conditions in real time against configured thresholds. This makes it relevant where teams need alerts tied to operating limits, though temperature zones are custom rather than a fixed set of included zones.
Exception and custody records: Staff can record who responded to an exception, the action taken, and where and when it occurred. That joins operational accountability to shipment monitoring instead of leaving response details separate.
Automated trip records: Reports combine temperature performance, events, and actions in a trip record, supporting review of what happened across a shipment.
Device connectivity and integrations: Supported devices can connect by 4G or Wi-Fi, or deliver on-demand data over Bluetooth through the Akurasense Connector app. Akurasense supports different OEM sensor suppliers and connectivity environments, with API and Webhook integrations; this flexibility matters for mixed deployments, while the Pro plan is the tier that explicitly includes customized platform or API integration.
Compliance and privacy: Akuratemp describes the cloud platform as compliant with 21 CFR Part 11. The privacy policy says precise location is collected with permission for specified app functions, is not sold or shared, and app-to-BLE data is encrypted end to end. Users can request deletion by email; personal account data is permanently removed within seven days after account deletion.

Pricing

Akurasense has a free plan and paid plans with custom pricing. The free option is free, but requires purchase of Akuratemp S.M.A.R.T Shippers. It includes device and asset management, the Monitor app, technical support, and company user training. It is the entry point for teams already prepared to buy the required shippers, not a standalone no-purchase trial.

Standard is custom pricing for delivery or storage operations. It includes trip management option M or fixed asset management option F, the Connector app, technical support, and company user training. Its narrower management options make it a fit for operations centered on one side of the workflow; teams needing both trip and fixed-asset management should compare Plus.

Plus is custom pricing for delivery and storage operations and includes trip and fixed-asset management, the Connector app, technical support, and company user training. It is the more complete operational tier for organizations covering both shipment and storage assets.

Basic is custom pricing for single-location organizations. It includes admin access, user management, MIS reports, the Monitor app, technical support, and company user training. Its stated scope is single-location use, so larger or multi-operation organizations should consider Pro.

Pro is custom pricing for larger organizations and includes unlimited users, trip and fixed-asset management, customized platform or API integration, technical support, and company user training. Unlimited users and custom integration make it the clearest fit for larger deployments, but its price must be obtained directly. All five plans include technical support and company user training.

Platforms

Akurasense supports Android, iOS, web, and API. The combination of mobile apps, web access, and API support suits teams working across field operations and system integrations.

Who it's for

Akurasense is a strong fit for operations and QA teams responsible for temperature-sensitive shipments or storage who need custody evidence and a record of exception responses alongside readings. It is particularly relevant to diagnostic and therapy logistics, courier operations, home-care collections, and organizations managing both mobile and fixed assets. Teams seeking a free option without buying Akuratemp shippers, or organizations that do not need workflow and custody records, may prefer a simpler or differently priced tool.

Pros and cons

Pro: Temperature alerts sit alongside custody and exception-response records, helping teams connect a condition to the people and actions involved.
Pro: Automated trip records combine temperatures, events, and actions, giving review teams a consolidated shipment account.
Pro: Support for mobile and fixed assets, several connection methods, and API or Webhook integrations can accommodate varied cold-chain setups.
Pro: Technical support and company user training are included across every plan.
Con: The free plan requires purchase of Akuratemp S.M.A.R.T Shippers, limiting its appeal as a no-commitment way to start.
Con: Paid tiers use custom pricing, so buyers cannot compare their costs without requesting quotes.
Con: Standard separates trip and fixed-asset management into options, while broader coverage requires moving to Plus or Pro.

Alternatives

Curesh is worth considering for teams that want a defined monthly asset price and a free trial: Trip Compliance costs 9.00 EUR per month, billed €9/monitored asset/month, with 90 days of data retention, basic chain of custody, and single-trip PDF reports. Akurasense instead has a free tier tied to a shipper purchase and paid tiers with custom pricing.

Kelsius CoolTrak365 is another paid option for teams comparing cold-chain tools across Android, iOS, and web.

Tive Platform may suit teams prioritizing shipment-oriented functions such as multi-tracker shipments, branded public sharing links, ETAs with alerts, and geofence alerts in its Plus plan; it also offers a free trial. Akurasense is more explicitly centered on custody records and exception actions alongside temperature monitoring.

OpSense Cold Chain is worth comparing for organizations focused on location-based purchasing, with a subscription priced by location and unlimited users, locations, and oversight.

Copeland Oversight360 is another paid option across Android, iOS, and web for buyers who want to request a demo and discuss pricing.

SmartSense by Digi may fit buyers who prefer asset-count and term-based custom quoting, with unlimited users and monitoring equipment, software, cellular IoT networking, and data included.

TSS Cold Chain Information System is another paid Android, API, iOS, and web option for teams prepared to request a demo to discuss choices.

TrueCold is a paid alternative with a Starter plan that includes up to five active integrations, real-time monitoring, basic alerts, a standard dashboard, email support, and basic compliance reporting. Akurasense may be preferable when the priority is connecting custody and exception-response records to cold-chain events.

Verdict

Choose Akurasense if your operations or QA team needs temperature monitoring tied to shipment custody, documented exception handling, and automated trip records across mobile and fixed assets. Its strongest case is the combination of monitoring and accountable workflow records, backed by several connectivity and integration routes. Look elsewhere if a transparent paid price or a free plan without a required shipper purchase is essential.
