| Platforms | The download page identifies Alloy 6.2.0 and says it includes a version for macOS High Sierra; it also describes running the JAR with Java. | Current listed releases target 64-bit Linux and macOS; the site says Windows can run PVS 7.1 or later through Vagrant and VirtualBox. |
| Purpose | Alloy is a language for describing evolving structures, and the Alloy Analyzer explores models by finding structures that satisfy constraints or counterexamples to properties. | PVS is a verification system combining a specification language, support tools, and a theorem prover. |

In their own words
Alloy Analyzer
Alloy Analyzer is a free model-checking tool for describing systems in the Alloy language and exploring the structures those descriptions permit. It searches for structures that satisfy constraints and for counterexamples to properties. Models can represent collections of structures that change over time, including security configurations and switching network topologies. The Analyzer presents results graphically, with appearance options that can be tailored to a domain. Alloy 6 adds mutable state, temporal logic, and temporal model checking; that checking requires NuSMV or nuXmv to be installed and available in PATH. The self-contained executable includes the Pardinus/Kodkod model finder, SAT solvers, the standard Alloy library, tutorial examples, and source code. The same JAR can be used as an API in other applications. Sterling adds a web-based visualizer with graph and table views, customizable and extendable with JavaScript. Alloy is self-hosted, supports Linux, macOS, Windows, and API use, and is maintained by volunteers.
PVS
PVS is a mechanized environment for formal specification and verification, intended for work such as mathematical formalization and hardware or algorithm verification. Its language is based on typed higher-order logic and supports predicate subtypes, dependent types, and parameterized theories. The system combines predefined theories, a type checker, interactive theorem prover, symbolic model checker, utilities, libraries, documentation, and examples. Proof support includes induction, rewriting, simplification with decision procedures, abstraction, and symbolic model checking; command-line tools can re-prove theories and libraries in batch mode. PVS also integrates the Yices SMT solver, supports random testing during proofs, and includes PVSio for evaluation and animation. GNU or X Emacs provides the integrated interface, with Tcl/Tk displays for proof trees and theory hierarchies. It runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows and is self-hosted. Noncommercial use is listed at free. Sources are under GPL, but the Allegro runtime has a separate click-through license, and commercial users need a current PVS license or must contact SRI about licensing.
