In their own words

Alt Text Pro

Alt Text Pro generates editable AI-assisted alt-text drafts for images in WordPress. You can review and adjust a draft before saving it to the WordPress media library, and supply page context to guide generation. Its plugin can bulk-process existing media-library images, while the API supports use in applications or websites without WordPress. The service lists JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WebP support, with uploaded files up to 10 MB. Each successful generation uses one credit; failed requests use none. Plans include a free option with 15 credits and a 150-credit signup bonus that never expire. Paid monthly plans start at $4/mo; annual plans are also listed. Features vary by plan, including auto-generation on upload, bulk media-library fixes, WooCommerce workflows, custom post types, and multi-site workflows. The listed platforms are web and API. Documentation says images are processed through encrypted HTTPS connections and are not stored on its servers after processing. Lite and Standard include email support.

ALTtext.org

ALTtext.org generates written descriptions of images for accessibility. Its web generator accepts images by drag and drop, file selection, or clipboard paste, and can process one or many images. Browser extensions add a generation control to alt-text fields on Bluesky, X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, Tumblr, Pinterest, Mastodon, and Pixelfed; on other websites, users can invoke generation from an image’s right-click menu. The service is available on the web, as extensions for Chrome, Brave, Edge, other Chromium browsers, Firefox, and Safari on macOS and iOS, and through Mac and iOS apps. ALTtext says the Apple apps bring the tool to desktop and the share sheet. It supports concise and detailed styles, bulk processing, publishing workflows, and API access. Generated descriptions are announced and focused for screen readers; the site says it supports VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS, and keyboard-only use and builds to WCAG 2.2. The free plan allows 20 ALT texts per day; Individual costs 9.99 USD one-time, Team is $19.99 a month, and Business / API is $99 a month. The maker says images are sent to Google’s Gemini API and are not stored on ALTtext servers.
