ALTification vs ATaaS

ALTification is a WordPress plugin and web service that uses AI to generate keyword-aware alt text, captions, and descriptions for images. It considers the page’s surrounding content and SEO context, and supports bulk site scans as well as targeted scans of pages, posts, and public custom post types. Supported formats include JPG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF. Integrations include Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress, The SEO Framework, WooCommerce, and Advanced Custom Fields. Agency workflows can use before-and-after reports. One credit covers a generation; requesting alt text, a caption, and a description together can use up to three credits per image. The free trial includes 25 credits, three Preview & Refine tests, and one site. Monthly and one-time credit packages are available. Each API key is tied to the first WordPress site where it is used, so additional sites need separate keys. ALTification is operated by A Fine Studio in the United Kingdom. Its privacy policy says submitted images, prompts, and responses are not kept after generation and are not used to train AI models.

ATaaS is an AI-powered REST API and web service that generates alt text for images. Requests can include page context, such as a product name, category, or description, to tailor text for e-commerce images. Supported formats are JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, and TIFF. The homepage says the service supports more than 120 languages; plan details list 10 languages for Starter and 50+ for Pro. Reported average response time is 750ms, with most images under 800ms. Generated text is described as following WCAG 2.1 Success Criterion 1.1.1 and being optimized for screen readers. Images are processed in memory, then discarded without storage, logging, or sharing. The free plan provides 250 images monthly, REST API access, one API key, and community support. Starter costs $79 a year; Pro costs $249 a year. Exceeding a monthly limit returns HTTP 403 until credits reset on the first of the next month.
