In their own words

AlumnForce

AlumnForce is an alumni community platform for higher education institutions, corporate alumni networks, and associations. It helps organizations connect members, support career development, and organize engagement. A searchable member directory includes geolocation, while event tools publish online or in-person gatherings and manage online ticketing. Career features include a job board, CV database, company profiles, and internship agreement workflows. The mentoring solution matches participants with a customizable algorithm and provides scheduling and video-conferencing tools. Targeted email campaigns and newsletters support member communications. An API and web services can synchronize user, academic, and company data with an organization’s management system. The platform runs on web, Android, and iOS, and provides API access. AlumnForce says it complies with GDPR, hosts data in France or optionally Switzerland, and makes daily automated backups. Plans include unlimited phone support, available weekdays from 9:00 to 18:00. Pricing depends on contact database size; projects also have a one-time setup cost in the first year. The Décollage plan is €350 a month on an annual subscription, excluding setup and onboarding.

Elgg

Elgg is a free, open-source framework for building web applications where people sign in and share information. It can serve as a foundation for campus networks, organizational collaboration platforms, or company communications tools. Hooks and events let plugins extend or change application behavior, while the view system supports custom themes. Granular content access policies can support private networks and intranets; user groups and a file storage API provide building blocks for managing members and their files. Elgg supports on-site and email notifications, as well as RPC web services for external applications and mobile clients. Its listed security features include anti-CSRF validation, XSS filters, HMAC signatures, and password hashing. The project offers documentation, tutorials, an API reference, community discussions, and a repository with more than 1,000 open-source plugins. It is free to download, install, and use. The full package with core plugins is offered under GPLv2; the framework without plugins is offered under MIT. Self-hosting requires a database and a configured cron job for background tasks.
