Overview

Amadine pairs vector drawing and editing with selected raster effects, so it can serve artwork that needs to scale while still accommodating blur, glow, and shadow treatments. It accepts SVG, PDF, and AI vector files, plus JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and HEIC images. Finished vector work can be exported as SVG or PDF; raster output is available as JPEG, TIFF, PNG, or PDF. That format coverage is useful for moving between common design assets and deliverables, although the free version's output restriction makes it a poor fit for anyone who needs a finished file before licensing.

Key features

More than 30 tools cover selection, drawing, editing, and text, including Pen, Draw, Width, and Image Trace. The range supports varied vector work, but Image Trace is among the functions held back in the unlicensed copy, so tracing existing artwork requires a purchase.

Typography goes beyond labels: text can follow a path, fit inside a shape, or flow across linked text boxes and columns. That gives layout-minded illustrators more options for integrating copy into artwork. Shadow, Inner Shadow, Blur, Inner Glow, and Outer Glow add selected raster effects without changing the app's vector focus.

Images can be brought in directly from Pexels, Pixabay, and Unsplash, which can shorten asset sourcing when an internet connection is available. This is a convenience, not a substitute for offline access to those libraries.

Pricing

The Free version is free and is fully operational on iPad and iPhone, but exporting, printing, and image tracing require purchase. It can be useful for exploring the app or making work that does not yet need delivery; it is not a complete free production workflow.

The iPad/iPhone subscription is 2.99 USD per month, billed monthly, with in-app purchases also offered monthly, yearly, or for a lifetime. A separate iPad/iPhone in-app purchase starts at 2.99 USD per month and offers month, year, or lifetime options. These are the mobile routes for unlocking paid use; the lifetime option avoids an ongoing subscription, while the monthly option suits someone who prefers a lower recurring commitment.

For Mac, the single-user lifetime license is 29.99 USD per once for one user, and the family license is 49.99 USD per once for five seats. The five-seat option is the better fit for a household or small group sharing access; a solo user has no reason to pay for those extra seats. Mac purchases made directly from the maker's website have a 30-day money-back guarantee, while App Store purchases follow Apple's policy.

Platforms

Amadine runs on Mac, iPad, and iPhone, with current requirements of macOS 11 or higher and iPadOS or iOS 15 or higher. Its desktop and mobile availability suits Apple users who want the same product across device types, but it is not a choice for Windows or Android workflows.

Who it's for

Digital artists, illustrators, and web designers working with scalable vector art are the clearest fit. The combination of drawing tools, text flow options, file imports, and several output formats supports both illustration and design-oriented work. Readers whose workflow depends on delivering exports or print files should budget for a license rather than treating the free version as a full alternative.

Pros and cons

Pros: More than 30 drawing and editing tools, including Pen and Width, give vector-focused users a broad working set.
Pros: Text on paths, inside shapes, and across linked columns supports more composed layouts than basic captioning.
Pros: SVG, PDF, AI, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and HEIC support covers common vector and raster exchange needs.
Cons: The unlicensed copy cannot export, print, or use Image Trace, blocking important steps in a finished workflow.
Cons: Direct imports from the integrated image libraries require an internet connection.
Cons: The platform range is limited to Apple's Mac and mobile operating systems.

Alternatives

Vector Graphics Software and Graphic Design Software offer broader category comparisons. Choose Linearity Curve instead if its free plan's 250 lifetime credits, one basic brand kit, and 5GB of cloud storage better suit your needs. EazyDraw is another Mac and iOS option; its Basic Mode has no time limit and permits saving and printing, though it is limited to one layer and 32 graphics. For browser-based SVG editing with local editing without an account and limited cloud storage, consider SVGSketch. Lunacy is a cross-platform alternative with a free plan capped at 10 cloud documents, 10 document editors or exporters, and 30 days of version history. Affinity is free for individuals and combines vector design, pixel photo editing, page layout, export tools, and Canva integration on Mac and Windows. Tilda is a web and API option whose free plan covers one website with key blocks, rather than a desktop illustration app. Vecteezy offers free and paid access to image and video assets. Vector Magic offers a browser-based online edition at 9.95 USD per month, with unlimited use and a subscription required to download results.

Verdict

Choose Amadine if you want a vector-focused drawing and typography app across Mac, iPad, and iPhone, with useful effects and broad file-format support. The main reason to pick it is that mix of illustration tools and layout flexibility; the main reason to look elsewhere is the free edition's inability to export or print, or the Apple-only platform range.
