In their own words
AmorphousDiskMark
AmorphousDiskMark is a free, open-source macOS utility for measuring storage read and write performance. It reports scores in megabytes per second or IOPS, with both units available in result tooltips. Sequential measurements use 1 MiB blocks, while random measurements use 4 KiB blocks; either type can run at queue depths from 1 through 1024. You can select random or zero test data, choose test sizes from 16 MiB to 64 GiB, and set intervals from 0 seconds to 10 minutes. Results can be copied as plain text, and the app can save a screenshot of its window. The product page lists macOS 10.9.5 or later, and the App Store describes it as Mac-only. The maker says an internet connection is unnecessary after downloading. The GitHub repository identifies an MIT license. The listed plan is free. Repeating read/write measurements may shorten storage-device lifespan.
ATTO Disk Benchmark
ATTO Disk Benchmark measures read and write performance and I/O throughput for drives and storage systems. It can test hard drives, SSDs, RAID and storage controllers, and host adapters. Storage reached over a network or block connection can be measured through a file system. Tests may run continuously or capture snapshots, with adjustable transfer sizes and queue depths; multiple disks can be tested in one run. ATTO describes its file-system performance tests as non-destructive. Custom test profiles and command-line automation are supported, and results can be saved in BMK, TST or LOG formats or sent to print. Windows and macOS versions are listed: the Windows download page lists v5.00.3, while the macOS page lists v1.01. ATTO identifies drive manufacturers, IT professionals maintaining IT environments, and hardware review sites as users of its Windows benchmark. The utility is free. Technical support is available by email or contact form.
